While this is true, maybe the padres aren't the best team to pull that line out with

The Dodgers, a team that has given two middle fingers to the CBT. Yeah. Talk about the best team money can buy.

So now some part of NYC is going to burn while other parts of NYC will sit back, watch and cackle in glee.

Dodgers did a bit more home growing than most though.

Most of their rotation, and their core that's still around from 2017 are all home grown

Either way… SUCK IT NEW YORK

Pretty wild it took a sweep at the end of the season by the Braves to edge them out 10-9, and now no more baseball. Shows you what can happen in the span of a week. What the Astros have done is so special.

They are paying Price $32MM to pitch random meaningless innings out of the pen. Almost $1MM per inning pitched. And they got MLB to take Bauer and his $35 MM off their hands, at least for now and until a court tells them to pony up. Kimbrel? $16MM. Treinen? Another $8MM. Freeman and Betts? $50MM between them. The Dodgers are burning cash like there is no tomorrow and just don't care.

The Mets dug their own grave by collapsing at the end of the season but I hate that baseball has fallen back on tie breakers at least in regards to division winners. Does anyone know if this was done this season only due to the length of the labor dispute or is this how it is going be from now on?

Showalter talking about the Mets. "They are an easy team to root for."

Yeah Buck. No they aren't.

It was 100% because of the work stoppage. They had no way to play game 163 or if needed 164 for WC tie breakers between the last day of the season and the start of the WC.

It was the negotiation of adding teams. It seems it's gone for now unless they change the postseason again.

Is that in writing though that 163 would come back next year? I'd found some articles referencing it was due to the additional WC team.

All that money Cohen has spent and his team loses out on the NL East and the bye at the very end and now they are about to get donkey punched by the Padres at Citibank Field. Let's see if he doubles down in the off-season and throws even more money at them. He's all but said he doesn't care how much he spends.

Barely $83m more in payroll than the Astros, so the difference between keeping everyone you want and adding a star like Betts or Freeman each off-season rather than having to let go a star each off-season like Correa, Springer, or Cole because you can't afford to pay them and others too.

I can't be too arsed since we're Top 10 in payroll, and it could be worse, but we're upper middle class at best when it comes to buying a championship.

4 of the top 5 and 6 of the top 9 teams in payroll are still in the playoffs.

My understanding is there will be no game 163 going forward because with the 3 game Wildcard series, they don't want the 1-2 seeds sitting around for extra days due to 163/164

The Astros would not have won their first divisional title in 1980 if a tie breaker was used instead of game 163.

Dolphins were in town to play the Jets. That's a marquee matchup right there!! You can't expect them to attend two sporting events in the same day.

if you play one another 13 times, head-to-head over those 13 games is a better way to break a tie than a 1 game playoff.

That is basically a 2-year extension if they use the club option. They're buying out 5 years of control to gain 1 to 2.

Trying to think of pitchers we face

Game 1 - Logan Gilbert - He pitched well against us. 4 starts, gave up a total of 7 runs
Game 2 - Luis Castillo - We never faced him this year.
Game 3 - Robbie Ray - 3 starts, gave up 13 runs.
Game 4 - ???
Game 5 - ???

The Astros have to get to Logan Gilbert with Luis Castillo likely pitching game two. Castillo concerns me since we haven't faced him.

Looks accurate. Gilbert will be back on normal rest for game 4 while Castillo will be available to pitch game 5 on short rest.

Even with the WC, you only need 3 starts for this DS this year. This greatly helps teams with short-starting pitching.

Crazy amount of Astro history on October 10.

2019 - Game 5 win over Tampa in the ALS when Tyler Glasnow was tipping his pitches.

2004 - Ken Caminiti dies . Astros piss away 5-2 lead to the Braves in Game 4 of the NLDS.

1981 - Strike season playoffs, Fernando beats Vern Ruhle in Game 4.

1980 - Denny Walling his a sac fly for 1-0 win over the Phillies, first playoff home win in franchise history to put the team up 2-1 in the NLCS. Joe Niekro throws 10 innings of shutout ball.

1961 - Colt 45s and Mets have their expansion draft, the first of its kind in the NL. Picks include Bob Aspromonte, Turk Farrell, Roman Meijas, Ken Johnson, and Bob Lilis. The Mets drafted 45 players and it cost them a total of $3.65 million With inflation, that's a little under $9 million today.
