Fwiw pretty sure they don't pick the title, they have someone else who does that. He basically rewrote the article Ken Rosenthal wrote earlier in the week, nothing ground breaking there.

Personally I suspect Dusty and Click have both privately declared behind the scenes they won't stay if the other stays.

I don't think a choice is made yet, and I don't rule out that Crane might send them both packing. The org is bigger than any one man.

According to the articles that have been written and some of the interviews I've heard with the writers, this is less of a Dusty vs Click conflict and more of a Crane thing. He's concerned that Click moves too slow and is too conservative / afraid to spend. Dusty is a dinosaur and Crane knows that, and he probably knows that if he doesn't promote Espada he's gone after this year. Espada runs a lot of things and would be a huge loss. I think in some way I think Crane has the idea that by leaving it open ended, he's promoting more focus and drive to win it all. That's likely not the case.

Crane is in a bad position. He needs to move on from Dusty, but if he does, he's gonna be the guy that fired the league's favorite grandpa (and inevitably someone will bring up race). If he fires Click, you're going to have a hard time finding someone willing to work for him. If 3 consecutive ALCS appearances and (so far) 1 world series appearance isn't enough to satisfy the owner, then you'll find few people willing to take on that job.

Because he just dealt with a bad optic departure 3 years ago. People look for reasons to come at the Astros. Media already is and they haven't even been let go yet.

Everyone knows Dusty needs to retire if he wins it all this year and I'm betting Crane is hoping that is the outcome so there is no issue with how it would look firing a "successful" manager

"Better" is a difficult thing to quantify and it's hard to compare players from two different eras, so let's just say "more valuable". Who is more valuable to a team in general, 2022 Aaron Judge or peak Tony Gwynn?

I agree, but just in general who would you say is the "better" player? I know Gwynn is a hero for a lot of people & judge is not a favorite around here but in my mind there's no question that I add 2022 Aaron Judge to any team before I add 1987 Tony Gwynn.

2022 Aaron Judge is one of the greatest offensive seasons in MLB history. Gwynn's lack of power holds him back from the elite of the elites. His best season by bWAR is 8.7 and OPS+ is 169. Judge is sitting at 10.6 and 214. It's not even all that close.

Love your stats Farmer but again I think you far overvalue some and the fact you can say it "isn't even close" on whether to have Judge or one of the best hitters ever is laughable
