Wherever there are question marks and reasonably good alternatives in trade rental market you have to look at those. Just getting a more dependable veteran bat for the bench would do wonders for this team and come in handy in postseason.

One observation/comment as it relates to the trade deadline.
I always wondered why teams wait until the exact deadline to make deals.
I get not doing something a month or two out but a need now is going to be a need next week. Why not get in front of other teams and get an extra couple weeks out of the new piece?
Yanks for example...Make the deal now and get it done.
Is it mostly sellers holding out?

I think that is how negotiations go. Without a deadline, you can always wait them out. Try to get more leverage. See if other offers come. It's the same reason why the deal got done in the offseason at the very end.Ag_07 said:

We did what you're saying last year with a couple of guys. I think that had to do with them not being high-level guys so once they got a fair deal the deals were completed.

Dusty is putting Yuli in the 2 hole to try and get him going.
So much of the Dusty criticism has to do with people like me being mad at him for not putting together the optimal lineup, not electing for the strongest pitcher matchup, or not pinch hitting at the right time.
For better or worse, Dusty believes in giving struggling and/or bench guys chances to prove themselves and turn things around.
Remember the 2020 season when he kept going to rookies Blake Taylor, Enoli Parades, Andre Scrubb, etc. in big spots? Some of that was out of necessity, but he was also trying to manufacture high leverage guys. Put them in the pressure cooker and see if they rise. Of course, none of those guys have been long term successful to this point.
I'll be livid when he does something cooky to the lineup in the playoffs (I don't think he did last year). But I have convinced myself to be ok with his methods while we hold a huge Division lead and appear to be in the driver's seat for a first round bye.

No updates from Dusty Baker on Michael Brantley, who still isn’t swinging a bat. Baker said he hadn’t heard an update from the trainer on Jake Odorizzi’s finger blister, either, but Odorizzi was throwing on the field earlier.

The plot thickens.
A little off the beaten path but what would you think about a Thor rental if the Angels are going into mass sell mode? I doubt it would cost too much and our nerds could probly set him right for a few months.
We could deal Urquidy for offensive help, deal Odo for a prospect or two, trade for Thor, and call up Brown.
Then we'd have JV and Framber locked in as starters and LMJ, Garcia, Thor, Javier and Brown that we could plug and play in different roles. Competition to be 3-4 starters in the playoffs would be intense. And I think all those guys have elite enough stuff to be effective as bridge/relief guys if they don't earn a starting spot. Thor could probly come out of the pen and throw 102 if he's only going for an inning or two.
