Missed a lot of the convo today. Having day-long discovery meetings with software vendors sucks even worse than it sounds...

1. After thinking about it, I'm a no on Soto. If we sign Tucker, the future bill including Bregman and Alvarez is big and getting bigger. I don't think the Astros can afford to sign front-line pitching with those three plus McCullers and Altuve on the books. The stable of pitching we have with Urquidy, LuAce, Javier and Valdez (and McCullers) is strong and cheap (for now). Maybe Verlander returns on the option, and maybe Crane spends money to keep him longer term- consider that a bonus. There's usually an Odorizzi available so not worried there. And that doesn't even include Hunter Brown or mythical Whitley. I like the future pitching staff too much to mortgage it.

2. I really need to attend Farmer's "Modern Hitter Value" seminar.

3. Jake Marisnick sounds hideous compared to Jake Meyers.

4. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we see Brantley again this year.

5. I hope something in life finally goes right for that Verlander guy. What a cautionary tale.

6. There are zero/none/nada untouchable minor league bats in return for a 1B/OF bat this year- even a rental. Throw McCormick and Lee in there as well. Get some help and go for a ring. None of the prospects' potential futures scare me a bit.

7. All-star stuff has been cool. Maybe I'm in the minority but I have enjoyed the brotherhood on display.

8. You think Safeco is scrambling to hire temp employees for this coming weekend? No way they had plans to be fully staffed this late in the year.
