He isn't good. His batting average sucks. His OBP is embarrassing. He has no power. His batter ball metrics support that he can't hit and it isn't getting better. His defense is also deteriorating. The difference is we didn't bench those guys to move on from them.

This isn't a video game where you can just slot better numbers over worse numbers and move on. Your talking about replacing one of the core elements of this team's golden years, who won the frikken batting title last year.

I'm no saying we don't do it or shouldn't do it, but surely you can understand some trepidation in the decision. Also, it's all about making the right trade. Is it worth trading the farm to slightly upgrade 1B? Of course not.

The world is full of MLB2K warriors that have never been part of a real team of any type and therefore don't understand the human element of making a move like that.

Yuli is probably actually 42 years old and his time is coming soon, but you don't just cast a guy like that aside without giving him more than a fair chance to break out of the slump.

How long is a fair chance? We're halfway through the season. Yes, Yuli is showing signs of life, lately, but where do you expect him to finish the season? Hitting .280 with an OPS+ of around 120 or .230 and 90?

By the way, I don't think anyone is saying to ship him off. Most of these guys want to win, and if you can make your team better and improve the chance to win this year...they'll get over Yuli sitting on the bench 5 days a week.

I think a fair chance is what Beltran got in 2017. He was so mediocre for us it's easy to forget he was an all-star & hit .295 with 29 HR in 2016.

He really played all season despite being subpar in 2017. By September they realized that's just what he had become and he started getting a lot of days off leading into the playoffs… and he ended up with 3 WS ABs.

So I would guess that is the plan for Yuli. I think they might have a quicker hook if we weren't on pace for 107 wins, just like they might have been in 2017… but I think there's an equal chance that Yuli is toast than there is that he has an .800 OPS the rest of the way and is just as good as anyone that we could pick up.
