Great family too. Im sure the joy they felt in this moment was immense.

I love stories of guys realizing their dreams thru hard work and perseverance. I hope he sticks around for 5-7 years at this point.

Pretty crazy how hit and miss MLB drafts are. In the 2013 first round that Appel was the #1 pick, only 3 guys out of 27 - Tim Anderson, Kris Bryant, and Austin Meadows - have even made the All-Star team.

The stud of the draft was Aaron Judge, a compensatory round pick at #27.

The real story here is that the Astros were going to take Appel #1 in the 2012 draft, but the scuttlebutt was that he rejected their offer of a $6 million signing bonus.

So they had to settle for Carlos Correa instead. Long story short, Appel being greedy (or at least demanding more money) got the Astros Correa.

Obviously we landed on the better side of that getting Carlos.

Haha! 1/2 joking on my end. I keep it clean and clever, all in good fun. I had a similar story, sitting on the floor for a suns game and jawing at Bo Outlaw. I was just a youngster but he made his disapproval known.

And we were able to trade Appel for Ken Giles, so we had that going for us too.

Ready for a great homestand. Need to take care of business with these struggling teams.

New York trip was awesome. Most everyone was nice and interactive. A few loudmouths, but it wouldn't be NYC without that. The Mets fans didn't have much energy in booing the Astros. A bit for Altuve and Bregman, but it really died off after each announcement at the plate. Nobody hates the Astros like Yankee fans, and it was glorious to see. Let's give them more reason today.

Roy O had to play left field for the Phillies against the Astros about a month after the trade when Ryan Howard got ejected. He records a put out against what seems to be Jason Castro.




I remember as a teenager when Fernando Valenzuela had to play first base for the Dodgers when they played the Astros in a 22-inning game. They had to move Eddie Murray to third because Jeff Hamilton ended up pitching.

Brief YouTube clip of it. If you watch the slo-mo replay, you can see Billy D was ready to wreck shop on that punk-ass Sciosia at the plate, but the throw was wild.

That game had it all. The Dodgers used 9 pitchers, including Hershiser throwing 7 scoreless innings of relief, and John Shelby going 0 for 10 at the plate. Jim Clancy, my least favorite Astro of all-time, got the unlikely win for the good guys.
