My wife is not a big follower of baseball but has general knowledge of the game. I gave her the situation from the bottom of the tenth and asked her what she would do. She immediately said she would walk Judge.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothing is a real cool hand

I'm sure it's been asked and answered and I missed it but why a one game series mid week?

Make up game from the missed 1st week from the lockout. Games 2 and 3 from that series will be a double header on July 21st

Before the lockout cancelled the first two series of the year, we were scheduled to play the Yankees for our second series. MLB bumped the first series of the year for every team to the end of the season and sprinkled the second series throughout the season on off days or when the two teams would already be playing. It was a three game series, so one game is played Thursday, then the other two are played as a double header right out of the all star break.

To me the main thing, and I have been saying this since he was hired, is that several teams have sent him packing immediately after 95 win seasons.

San Francisco booted him after 97, 90, 95 (and immediately after winning the NL pennant!) and then went on to an epic era right after.

The Reds booted him after winning 97 and then 90…the freaking Reds!!! who can't win anything!!!

And of course the Nationals after winning 95 & 97 and then went on to win it all for the first time right after.

His style leads to good results, but then ultimately you need someone that makes great decisions when the decisions matter the most. Enough times now that it's clearly not a fluke or bad luck & the way he still manages shows that he hasn't learned.

I like him a lot and I wish he was a better manager. But I don't think we are going to win at all with him at the helm.

Last year Jason Castro's OPS+ was 119.
This year his OPS+ is -6.

He has hit more than 100% worse than the league average hitter.

What happened?

https://nypost.com/2022/06/26/yankees-fans-must-stop-blaming-jose-altuve-for-astros-cheating/

Heyman with a call to end the Altuve bashing from Yankee fans. Couple of low blows in there but here is the main point of it if you don't want to give it the click:

"Reggie Jackson shared an elevator the other day with Yankees fans, one of whom was telling his buddies how much he despised Jose Altuve.

"I hate that little sawed off SOB," the gentleman proudly told his chums.

And that's where Mr. October, now an Astros executive, entered the convo.

"He's my favorite player," Jackson told the fellow, before adding one comment. "You should be quiet."

The fellow had one question for Reggie.

"You're Reggie Jackson, aren't you?"

"Yes, I am."

And so, the guy took Reggie's advice and shut up.

Now the rest of the Yankees faithful should follow suit. "

" Altuve now has 10 home runs in 99 at-bats versus the Yankees since 2017. So the serenade of boos quite obviously is not working.

At this point, it is well established that while their trophy is undeniably tainted, the '17 Astros were a fantastically talented team that surely didn't need help getting to the playoffs it was full of the stars you remember plus even Joe Musgrove and Teoscar Hernandez. And they remain a superb squad only surpassed to this day by the Yankees.

Altuve is the face of the franchise, a long-time, homegrown Astro who keeps getting big hits, so I suppose it makes some sense he takes the brunt of fans' frustration. But it's ridiculous. It is well known now that Altuve was one of a few Astros hitters who didn't even take the stolen signs via the trash can."

" If you're keeping score, only five Astros remain from 2017. And the Yankees employ three 2017 Astros super utilityman Marwin Gonzalez plus two in the broadcast booth, Beltran and Cameron Maybin.

"They give Marwin a roll call, and they FU Altuve, and Marwin is the reason we won the World Series," one Astros player noted, recalling key Gonzalez hits that helped beat the Dodgers in that World Series.

Beltran remains the only ex-2017 who admitted the Astros' title should be asterisked, and he did that while taking a paycheck from the Yankees as a YES Network broadcaster. Beltran incidentally is the only player named in MLB's report. (Again, not Altuve!) "

If you took Altuve's 13 career ALCS games vs. the Yankees and extrapolated them into a entire season, his numbers would be on pace for:

162 GP
598 AB
112 Runs
199 Hits
50 HR
112 RBI
100 walks
.333 AVG
.417 OBP
.604 SLG
1.021 OPS

Forget Dusty and Judge, how do the Yankees ever pitch to Tuve?

The algorithm doesn't tell the full story? Because his value seems much worse than how far below a league average hitter he is with a war of -. 7 in limited playing time. On the bright side he was a top 10 draft pick, so losing out on those can be a plus if you're as horrifically bad as Castro has been this year.

His 162-game average as of yesterday, according to Baseball Reference

592 AB
108 R
175 H
38 2B
45 HR
130 RBI
.295/.378/.592
.970 OPS

His #1 Similar batter through Age 24 is Willie McCovey
I could settle for Yordan being a 6x All-Star and HOFer with 521 career homers, I guess.

McCovey also had his really first huge breakout year at age 25: 44 HR, 102 RBI, .280 average.

Love Enoli, if he can get that breaking ball to start far in the zone. It breaks so much it is non-competitive by the time it gets to the plate. He can throw it at a batter's belt buckle and still have it cross outside.
