Between Houston and the Aggies super I have seen too many terrible bunt attempts this weekend.

The twins superstar SS prospect had a major knee injury. Media clamoring for the twins to back up the brinks truck.

Glad to win one. Need to get right in a hurry against Arlington and CWS before playing the Mets and Yanks for like 10 days straight.

He's definitely been on. He was on the first half of last year too. My concern is he will wear down as the year goes on.

If Bregman and Yuli were hitting .280 and the C spot even .200 you could maybe, just maybe, live with a plus plus defensive CFet hitting .193. But with things the way they are you can't afford to cripple this offense any more than it already is.

All of this is really good. It's Breggy and Yuli who need to wake up.

This day in Astros History ...

June 12

1988 - Mike Scott's bid for his second career no-hitter ends one out short when Ken Oberkfell delivers a clean single to right with two outs in the top of the ninth . It's the only sour note in a 5-0 whitewash over Atlanta. Scott walks none and fans eight. Terry Puhl, Kevin Bass and Craig Reynolds contribute three hits each.

1978 - Despite committing a team-record seven errors, Houston explodes for six runs in the eighth inning to upend the Pirates, 6-5. Jesus Alou begins the frame with a double, his fourth hit of the night. Cesar Cedeno completes the rally with a bases-loaded single. Rick Williams gets the win in his major league debut.

I was at that game in 1988 with Scotty almost getting no-no #2. The 1978 game makes me wonder what the most errors a team has ever committed in a win is. Couldn't find an easy answer on Google, but did call up the time Tommy John made 3 errors on one play.

https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-trade-deadline-stock-valuations

Trade candidates with Astros listed as potential fits.

Quote:

Willson Contreras, C, Cubs
Contreras has been a prime trade candidate since last year, when the Cubs shipped off longtime teammates Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Javier Bez prior to the Trade Deadline. After a pedestrian start to 2022 (.720 OPS, two home runs, seven RBIs in 20 games through May 7), the 30-year-old has raked during a 29-game stretch, posting a 1.050 OPS with eight homers and 16 RBI. Contreras is earning $9.625 million this season and is due to be a free agent this winter, making him one of the top rental players this summer.

Potential fits: Astros, Mets, Yankees
Quote:

Trey Mancini, 1B, Orioles
Mancini struggled during the first month of the season, posting a .590 OPS with one home run and eight RBIs in 20 games. Since May 3, Mancini has five homers, 17 RBIs and an impressive .913 OPS in 37 games, one of the few highlights of an offense that ranks 12th in the AL with a .667 OPS. Mancini can play first base and either corner outfield spot, so his versatility will make him attractive to contenders, while his contract -- he's earning $7.5 million this year and has a $10 million mutual option for 2023 with $250,000 buyout -- isn't cost-prohibitive.

Potential fits: Astros, Red Sox, Twins

Hunter Brown came out of the bullpen tonight to throw 3 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 4 K, 3 BB

Seems like he's had a couple bullpen outings lately. Probably starting to get him ready for the transition to the Astros bullpen

His strikeout/walk ratio is an incredible reflection of his evolution as a hitter.

As rookie, he has 94 strikeouts and 52 walks, so 1.81 strikeouts per walk

In 2021 when he came back from injury, he had 145 strikeouts and 50 walks, that's 2.9 strikeouts per walk

This year so far it is 37 strikeouts and 29 walks, that's down to just 1.28 strikeouts per walk.

Maybe a year or two we had a discussion about how almost no players in the entire sport will finish their careers with more walks than strikeouts. Pujols was the exception, and at the time Bregman was pretty close and despite his hitting woes, he's still not far off - 387 career walks, 428 career strikeouts.

Right now Yordan is on pace for:

103 runs scored
165 hits
46 home runs
111 RBI
78 walks
Only 100 strikeouts
.311 AVG
.402 OBP
.628 SLG

It's not the greatest offensive season in Astro history, there's Bagwell's 1994 gold standard and a bunch more by him, Bidge, and Berkman in the late 90s/early 2000s once they got to Minute Maid, and of course, Altuve's best, but damn, I don't think we've had someone have a year like that at 25 years old in a long time.

Berkman at 25 was spectacular in 2001: 55 doubles, 34 HR, 126 RBI, .331/.430/.620
Bagwell at 25 in 1993 gave us 20 HR, 88 RBI, .320/.388/.516

Actually Yordan's season pace mirrors Richard Hidalgo's flash in the pan 2000 year where he hit 44 HR, drove in 122, and hit .314/.391/.636 in the first season at Minute Maid.

Maybe. We tend to have starters in the minors throw out of the pen some as well for innings management purposes. It probably does help make them more mentally capable of working out of the pen.
