While this is all about MLB, ultimately this has political roots. Oakland has been a hellhole wet dream of liberal, Democrat governance for 60 years and the outcomes of those policies are what have caused the flight of capital and money to remain a city with the ability to support professional sports. It's why the Raiders left, returned, and left again. It's why the Warriors moved across San Francisco Bay back to San Francisco after being almost solely in Oakland since 1971.

The politicians and policies the people of Oakland have voted for are directly to blame for the flight of their beloved teams away from Oakland.

He's had 2 really good years and been avg to below average the rest of his career. Good thing they're paying him 25 M in 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, & 28. That's all.

The A's last drew 2 million fans in a season in 2014, which translates to 24,736 fans a game. That ranked them 10th of 15 AL teams. They were 88-74 that year and lost the wild card.

In 2018 they went 97-65 and lost the wild card, averaging 19,427 fans per game, 13th of 15 in the AL.

In 2019, they went 97-65 again and lost the wild card again, averaging 20,626 fans, 10th of 15 in the AL.

In 2021, they went 86-76 and averaged 8,660 fans per game. They could try and blame California COVID policies until you see that LA averaged 34,625 (1st); San Diego averaged 27,061 (3rd), and San Francisco averaged 20,734 (12th).

Only Miami (7,933) averaged fewer fans a game

There's still enough money in San Francisco.

San Fran has about 90% of the problems Oakland does but about 1000x the money. Plus, there are still beautiful parts of San Francisco where they can isolate from the hellhole parts. Not in Oakland.

If you go to Yordan's Baseball Reference.com page, under most similar by age, the name is Willie McCovey.
If Yordan wants to hit 521 career homers with the Astros, win an MVP and make 10 All-Star teams I'd be cool with that.

Interesting rabbit hole to take, both guys were unanimous ROYs - McCovey in 1959, Yordan in 2019.

The Show just dropped a new program for the Space City jerseys, and one of the moments is recreate Jose Altuve's walk off against Chapman in 2019 to send the Atria to the WS.
