1 run was already probably impossible. 2 is definitely impossible

- The lineup is broken
- Maldy isn't doing much behind the plate…and less than nothing at the plate
- Defense has been awful
- 12th runner thrown out on the bases IN THE LAST 7 games

The time to fire people is now and not let it spiral out of control.

Trailing after 3 = automatic L for this team, with one game against Toronto and one against Oakland as the only exceptions I can remember in this entire exhausting season.

Snitker and Cintron are a start and I'd put Pettis' ass on the bench. (Even though the windmill at 1st base has been a bigger issue)

The lack of focus and total appearance of a sinking ship, however, lays at Dusty's feet.

These aren't just losses that they've been taking over the last week…they've been non-competitive losses to sub-.500 teams. There is no silver lining; the team is mostly healthy and they are leaking water.

I agree with you on Dusty. There is no fire in the belly of this team. That is squarely at the feet of Dusty.

I had high hopes when we signed Aledmys but he's really just been an average Joe that gets hurt a lot.

There's my issue…everyone saw this coming from a mile away and Click acted like the security guard from 'Austin Powers' screaming "NOOOOOO!!!!" while the steam roller moves slowly at him.

(No, I don't know what they should've done, but every other team out there competing against it hasn't found it difficult to make moves to strengthen their team)

It's bad enough you gotta go to Six Flags, and then take the L

Did Bregman do anything tonight? I'm traveling for work and didn't watch anything but saw no MLB updates mentioning Bregman, so I assume the suck cotinues. Yuli too…

I know we're piling on right now, but I'm not opposed to Joe taking over.

For me, it's the lack of competitive ABs up and down the lineup…they make the same mistakes over-and-over. This is where I'm firing the hitting staff…it seems that there's zero strategy or anticipation of what could come when our guys step in the box.

You watch the broadcasts over the weekend and you see how spot-on Bagwell is about what will come and where it will be thrown; our guys are just out there guessing.

I'm very over Dusty at this point, so this is not to indicate otherwise -- but when is it the responsibility of the "leaders" on the field to bring some intensity or will to win? We can talk all we want about how Pena is replacing Correa's production but if every ounce of fire in that clubhouse apparently left with him, what's it matter?

This team has sleptwalked through a third of a season at this point and the Yankees and Mets are about to knock them right back down to the Angels the way things are going.

This team has the hitters, some are just not hitting.

I get the desire for the all star lineup but if certain higher spots in the order were producing this wouldn't be an issue

Rome: the stolen bases, how much was on Neris and how much was on Maldy?

Dusty: Most of it, its easy to still on the pitcher, you don't steal on the catcher too much

WTF...

Yeah the "Carlos who?" stuff got old quickly for me. Dude gave his all for this city and team and then some, atleast in his last two seasons anyway. Replacing his leadership is a problem that needs solving to keep that Astro identity of out-hustling and out-defending everyone else.

This is a very valid point. It seems this team this year lacks leadership without Carlos. Jose is a leader, but more of the "Aww, shucks guys, let's play and have fun and win" type guy. Bregs seems too self-absorbed to lead. You can see that through is commitment to salsa and his YouTube video presence. It's all about him. When George was here, he was the spark plug. As for CC, he was not afraid to get into a dog fight. Remember how he cross checked one of the A's. He has swagger, that unwavering bravado and stood up for his teammates. But the thing about CC, he was willing to own up to his failures. And he showed it time and time again, having the cheating scandal head on. If the team was struggling, he was quick to shoulder the blame. No one has taken that role this year, and it's like the team, especially the offense, has no swagger or identity.

Inexcusable loss. All can be forgiven if we win the next 2 though

So….then we don't need a defensive catcher who can't hit?

This year we have scored 2 runs or fewer in 21/61 (34.4%) games. Last year was 38/162 (23.4%). That's a pretty stark difference. We also got shut out 7 time last year and are already at 5 this year. Just some basic numbers to state the obvious, this offense is significantly worse.

I think the issue might be in the dugout. These guys have all known each other a long time and get along. That's generally a good thing and we are winning. However, it seems Click is trigger shy for fear of rocking the boat. This is probably why Schwab said an OF is most likely. It's much easier to throw Chas / Siri in the metaphorical garbage than the battle hardened vets like Martin and Yuli, even if it's less likely to provide much of an upgrade. It's simply not logical thinking. A good GM should be able to find a way to fix a problem without being too disruptive. Why not get a better backup catcher and see if he can take away more PT from machete over time? How about a combo OF / 1B like Cooper from the Fish? Ease him into stealing the job from Yuli.

What's this statistic for the rest of the league? I thought slugging was down universally

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Unfortunately, I think a lot of this is it's way cheaper for your own players to figure out (Bregman and Gurriel) than it is to go and acquire replacements. Since the team is 7.5 games up, there isn't any pressure on Click to make changes right now. Makes for frustrating baseball though
MaxPower
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That's a matter of perspective. Yea, the division title isn't likely to be challenged. However, getting a first round bye with a top 2 seed is a big deal. We are only 2 games up on the Twins for that.

I don't have the breakdown but I suspect it isn't significantly different. There are 5 teams averaging fewer than 4 runs a game this year compared to 4 last year. We are 22nd this year in runs per game at 4.11 while last year the 22nd scoring team averaged 4.30 (Tigers).

I agree with all of your comments. I feel like we are really missing Correa right now. We need someone in that role and I think we really have no one right now.

Checking in on Jake Meyers in AAA:

27 PA, 3 SO, 0 walks
BA: 0.174
OBP: 0.259
SLG: 0.217
OPS: 0.477

Taylor Jones in AAA:

23 PA, 4 SO, 2 walks
BA: 0.250
OBP: 0.304
SLG: 0.450
OPS: 0.754

I think Taylor is more likely to get called up than Jake.
