Here is how the Astros nearly acquired Bryce Harper in 2018, complete with the full trade package Jeff Luhnow and Mike Rizzo agreed upon before Nationals ownership nixed the deal - https://t.co/lwpAGe1Zgd

Former Luhnow guy. Could he be considered for Astros GM if Click isn’t brought back? https://t.co/jzx9JWjIcV

Astros pitching this postseason:

1.88 ERA
0.93 WHIP
.178 Opp BA
11.1 K per 9 IP
So @Buster_ESPN asked: what’s a starting pitcher comp for these numbers?
Just ONE SP has had these numbers or better in a qualified, full season:

A resounding no for the guy that traded away Josh Hader
Quote:
The five-player package headed to Washington included infielders Abraham Toro and Randy Csar along with pitchers Josh James, J.B. Bukauskas and Kent Emanuel, Luhnow said.

Four years ago, the Astros agreed in principle to acquire Harper from the Nationals a day before the July 31 deadline, former general manager Jeff Luhnow said this week. The five-player package headed to Washington included infielders Abraham Toro and Randy Csar along with pitchers Josh James, J.B. Bukauskas and Kent Emanuel, Luhnow said.
Quote:
A need for offense became apparent, but as Luhnow remembered it, he and Rizzo opened dialogue on July 30 discussing bullpens. The two executives first discussed another player Luhnow believes it was reliever Kelvin Herrera before Luhnow mentioned Harper "sort of in jest."
According to Luhnow, Rizzo responded that "for the right package," Washington would move its franchise centerpiece. Luhnow pounced, sensing the sort of blockbuster he authored a year before to acquire Justin Verlander. Long thought of by some as a prospect hoarder, Luhnow was willing to give away five pieces of his farm system for two months of Harper's services.
Among them, only Bukauskas ranked in Baseball America's Top 30 Astros prospects. James was, however, amid a breakout minor league season that eventually found him tossing triple-digit fastballs in high-leverage innings out of Houston's major league bullpen. Toro and Csar hadn't played past Class AA. Emanuel had a 5.66 ERA in the upper minor leagues in 2017.
Agreeing to names does not finalize a trade. Deals of this magnitude require ownership approval. Both general managers understood that and, according to Luhnow, communicated it to one another after the packages were agreed upon. Houston owner Jim Crane "gave me the green light right away," Luhnow said.
Quote:
Csar has never appeared in the majors. Bukauskas, whom Luhnow sent to Arizona in the Zack Greinke blockbuster, has thrown 17 major league innings. Toro, Emanuel and James have combined to accrue 1.4 wins above replacement, according to Baseball-Reference.
Man at the 3:18 mark I don't think I've ever seen Verlander look happier (and that's including the 2017 WS win aftermath and his no hitter with us).Farmer1906 said:This is gold. Well done. Excited for what's coming! #AltuveWSMVP! https://t.co/x32s54I8Tt

Out of the 89 umpires who called at least 10 games behind the plate this year, here are the rankings of the seven World Series umpires. Two guys who deserve the honor and another two or three that aren't too egregious. pic.twitter.com/EmXugWeraz

Despite being in the World Series for a second straight year, Astros GM James Click's job status has remained tenuous. Execs all year have told me to keep an eye on Stearns to Houston. They say owner Jim Crane likes Stearns. So if Stearns leaves, the Mets may have competition. https://t.co/5GUgMLdow9

The guy traded Hader while they were battling for a playoff spot. He is clearly not of his right mind. I don't want that kind of garbage going on around here. What impactful moves has he made as their GM? I'd rather keep Click. I don't get why we would let him go after the string of playoff success. If we do let him go, I'd rather get Sig from the Orioles.Farmer1906 said:Despite being in the World Series for a second straight year, Astros GM James Click's job status has remained tenuous. Dont mean to do that, I think Click has done a good job generally. I mean obviously, we're in the world series again.Ag_07 said:
Probably splitting hairs but I look at it like Luhnow built the foundation and continued to build it.
I have a hard time saying everything good right now is because of Jeff Luhnow.
To me that's selling the job Click has done WAY short.
