I actually prefer someone who can talk baseball, I'm not watching a baseball postgame show to see hot women.

When did we learn that Phil Maton broke his hand punching his locker and is going to miss the post season? I totally missed that.

Just 2 quick thoughts this morning:

1) I give Dusty a lot of ****, but it was nice to have the relaxed and calm manager who was making the right decisions and never really got into a panic. Thats just his demeanor for better or worse, and yesterday it was for the better. Tip of the cap to him.

2) I love what that win does for the youngsters confidence moving forward (Pena and Hensley). They get that first game out of the way and deliver big time. Should be big moving forward.

Somebody has to gif that! The fans going nuts, the easy to lip read OMG, and then the visor flip. It's perfect!
It's also the perfect opportunity to photoshop some shades with "Deal With It" when he lowers the visor

this has probably been posted. but i recommend reading the whole thing to truly understand how insane Yorgod's performance was last night.

Quote:

Alvarez is known for his bat more than his fielding, quite understandably; only Aaron Judge out-hit him this year. But in a game where he just had the most impactful hit to win a game in postseason history, where he may have just had the most impactful game overall of any hitter in postseason history, there was more to it than just that. There was the throw that saved a run. There was the throw that helped keep the game close enough to even allow for the walk-off we'll never forget.

2 days ago Dusty made mention he was missing the roster due to an off the field injury. Maton owned up to it in his interview yesterday. good for him for not being up front about it.

Not sure if any of this has been posted but:

Yordan had a WPA of 105.2% yesterday. The highest in any postseason game in history. His walk-off had the highest WPA of any single play in postseason history.

Final swing was clocked at 94.1mph, which is beyond elite. MLB average tracked this year is around 80mph.

Couple that with his putout at home, and he had one of the best postseason games in history.

I'm surprised that after spending several years in Houston, that Alvarez still needs a translator when doing interviews. No biggie. Just surprised.

Shouldn't that be "I'm surprised we don't all need translators since it's Yordan's world and we're just living in it."

When I was a BB in my younger years, Kaz Matsui had a translator, Yoshi, despite living in the US for something like 7-8 years at that point. Couldn't speak a lick of English. The Spanish speakers spoke their native language to each other, but were all able to speak English, which I'm sure Yordan can too.

For sure...Dusty should get A LOT of credit. He once again pushed the right buttons in a playoff game.

He stuck with JV longer than I would have. Made good BP calls. And the big one that I was impressed with was leaving Yordan in the game after I think it was Diaz that PH.

I thought for sure he was gonna insert him into LF as a "defensive replacement". I was just waiting for it and was gonna lose it.

He gets a lot of shlt but man he's proven to be a pretty good postseason manager.

Good point and it's something a lot of managers are guilty of...over managing. Dave Roberts did it and was one of the reasons we won in '17. Scott thinks all eyes are on him all the time (he sees the camera pointed at him) and he has to "make a move." Nope, sometimes you don't and their closer was making good pitches (like the one Pena hit, that was a good pitch).

Oh yeah, and **** Scott Servais, he's such an a**hole.

He really shouldnt have sent JV back out for the 4th. It was clear he didnt have it. He was acting like we have no other pitchers with a fresh pen and an off day tomorrow. Baffling decision.

Yordan at the Bat
With apologies to Mr Thayer from LonghornDub

The atmosphere was gloomy in our Minute Maid that day,
The score stood 5 to 7 with a half inning yet to play,
Rook Hensley got on base when barely hit by pitch,
But Tuve fanned the fetid air - he couldn't scratch the itch.
So with one on and one out to the plate we did bring up
A rook who hadn't hit a slider since Hector was a pup,
He tried his best with mind and might to hit that ball real hard,
And send that missile whistling through the air and out the yard,
And though his efforts faded to a one base hit it seemed
That all might be forgiven if it hapt like Houston dreamed,
A roar began in someone's throat, and grew both loud and fat,
For Yordan,, mighty Yordan, was advancing to the bat.

Their leader, Simple Scottie, had a plan that he thought sound,
He brought his Cy Young winner out the pen and to the mound,
It's left on left he figured, didn't think he'd lose that deal,
Throw fast balls while he flails and fails and shows that he's not real,
We'll take our Game 1 victory and go back to the house,
We'll show these Houston Astros who's a man and who's a mouse,
So Robbie Ray wound up to throw a bullet past our man,
It took no time at all to travel that short span,
And Yordan swung and missed and Scottie loved,
The sound that baseball made as it popped the catcher's glove,
So another fastball seemed to be the order of the day,
It would be the last one offered from the hand of Robbie Ray.

Oh, somewhere in ths favored land the sun is shining bright,
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout,
That somewhere's down in Houston -

MIGHTY YORDAN KNOCKED IT OUT!

I think that they're just not confident enough with their english and afraid they will make a bad mistake.

I think Dusty kept JV in too long. Between the additional rest and Javier's availability out of the bullpen, we could have bridged the gap just fine. It wouldn't taken 5 runs in the last 2 innings. We didn't use Neris, Stanek, or Pressly.

I did like the way he wasn't afraid to use the rookies in big situations. Brown & Hensley were clutch. Hopefully, he had some good info as to why Vazquez PH for Chas. It worked so, obviously, great, but was that a gut feel or did they like the match-up?

It's called the center of percussion. The bat's "sweet spot". When you hit the ball there it just feels good. If you don't hit the ball there the bat vibrates and flexes and stings your hands.
