Not sure if this popped up in any of the individual team threads, but seems pertinent enough to deserve its own.

MLB chalking it up to COVID protocols that resulted in Rawlings (which is owned by MLB) sending out excess supply from previous years. A few notable points to this story:

  • Clubs and Players were not informed of this, though you did have a few players speaking out about balls feeling different
  • This was only discovered because someone independent of baseball examined balls used across multiple games in multiple parks
  • With that in mind, you can probably expect this to be a talking point in the upcoming labor discussions, which were predicted a few months ago to already be heading toward a work stoppage
  • If you want to get really tin-foily, it's worth pointing out that this is the first year that MLB was partnered with gambling organizations. But more likely, that's more a coincidence and this is another case of the Manfred regime being incompetent.

Pete Alonso called this over the summer. Called a "wild theory" at the time.

There needs to be an entire house-cleaning at MLB. Starting with the commissioner & going down. Drain the swamp.

Tend to agree. Never thought I'd prefer Selig baseball over anyone, but here we are

Yet, it's the Astros who are the cheaters. The only ones in fact. Nobody else.
