regarding the A's...I guess the question is...why are they in full-sell mode?

the organization must have really hidden their financial woes due to COVID (or from COVID) the last 2 years.

Spotrac lists their payroll at $42 MM for the 2022 season.

Low attendance. Likely not a very tax friendly environment. Can't attract good players in free agency (if they wanted to). They burned a lot of prospect capital these past few years at the trade deadline building bullpens full of closers and trading for a whole new outfield. I think they see a lot of their home grown talent about to hit free agency and they would rather burn it down and rebuild the farm through trades rather than let them all go to free agency for nothing (especially with the QO possibly on the way out and draft compensation going away).

Regarding Beltran, my initial reaction is "**** that guy."

His answers are b.s. Hinch told them to stop. He even smashed the monitors, but they still did it.

This is straight PR spin because he is with the Yankees. Also, Micheal Kay is always wearing his Yankees glasses. That whole team and fan base sucks. I hope they get destroyed in the AL East this year. Regardless of what's in the letter, their fans will rationalize it as "not that bad" or "we had to do something to keep up with those cheating Astros."

Let it go. Y'all lost. You couldn't hit Astros pitching at MMP. Gary Sanchez also sucked. Deal with it.

In our system that's Shawn Dubin & Misael Tamarez. Doesn't seem like a very steep price off hand. Especially given how much they've traded away, it's probably even lower. I could be totally wrong though.
