so is the plan to cancel the baseball season one week at a time?
informal talks today on Thursday, March 3rd.
if nothing is agreed to by Monday, March 7th...that should cancel the next wave of games that were supposed to begin on April 7th

My understanding for minor league spring training is that major league coaches are prohibited from speaking/working with prospects.
— Michael Schwab (@michaelschwab13) March 3, 2022
Major league coaches are allowed to be at the team facilities, but have to stay away from the prospects.
I don't see why that would matter, Coaches aren't part of the MLBPA and neither are the prospects...EastCoastAgNc said:My understanding for minor league spring training is that major league coaches are prohibited from speaking/working with prospects.

Sources: Angels, Diamondbacks, Reds and Tigers owners opposed MLB luxury tax increase to $220 million. MLB also proposed including player meal money in calculation of luxury tax, which irked players. https://t.co/gBKrqAx9wV

Checked with a MLB source: The league is also setting up a fund for workers impacted by the delay to the season. They'll announce details soon.

I guarantee you the owners/league will try to make their fund bigger
Well, to be fair, the PA $1mm fund isn't going to go very far.....EastCoastAgNc said:Looks like the PA just beat them to it:EastCoastAgNc said:They're doing a better job of it than the owners / league are.Farmer1906 said:

100% agree.Mathguy64 said:
The meal money figure I saw recently was it's about $10MM team. It's not insignificant. And it's 100% a form of an expense for the owners and it's salary compensation for the players.
How in the ever-living hell is it salary compensation for the players?Mathguy64 said:

Of course it's a benefit and has some value… we would all rather work somewhere that has those things than doesn't.Lonestar_Ag09 said:
Whether its actually considered salary compensation or not...it is. If you are not paying for your own meals that is money you are not spending...which can be spent elsewhere, out of your salary.
Hearing from sources on both sides of the CBA talks that they are hopeful that a renewed discussion of the 14-team playoff field could be a potential breakthrough -- for talks that need a breakthrough.
