If there is one group of people that hate change it's baseball lifers.

I assume that going through those 3 100-loss seasons that watching his draft picks rise through the minors to the majors Luhnow thinks of them like his children.

Hardly.

If anyone thought of players like a number, a salary, and a means by which to produce stats and ultimately wins it was Luhnow.

The personal connection was not a part of his approach. I'm not saying it should be but if you think it was you haven't been paying much attention.

You're right, he doesn't necessarily have connections to the players. Rather than the individual players, he sees the final assembled team as his pet/child... He built it up from scratch, and the more it continues to have success, the more he is vindicated and the more his world view and the decisions he made are reinforced as correct.

And let's be honest, with any McKinsey guy the most important part is having your ego stroked. This is what another championship means.

I agree that at the time they were nothing more than assets. That's the whole analytical approach. I doubt he still looks at Correa and Bregman as nothing more than assets since he no longer controls them.

But I do agree with your statement.

So are we all in agreement that tomorrow just about every time Altuve, Brantley, Tucker, Chaz/Siri get on first with second base open, they should be stealing? Base runners have a 93% success rate against their catcher. Probably should've been doing it more all series.

I'm seeing some discussion on Twitter about the World Series home/away format. It needs to change to a 3-3-1 format. All season long teams are playing almost all 3 game series, the 3-3-1 format does a much better job simulating the regular in my opinion

IMO, the only format that clearly benefits the higher seed is 2-2-1-1-1. I could make the case that I would rather be the team without home field advantage under a 2-3-2 and 3-3-1 format which obviously shouldn't be the case. Tough to fix though with games set to be played almost every day.

Is the World Series format supposed to simulate the regular season?

Obviously not necessarily but why not do something to make it a little closer to it. I just think the 2-3-2 format favors the team without home field more.

I really like the 2-2-1-1-1 format. Keeps it balanced and you're not basically forced into 2-3 innings then bullpen madness the last 3 games.

2-2-1-1-1 has too many travel days. Bullpen depth would mean practically nothing.

How about 2-2-2-1

Yeah the team without HVA gets GM 7 at home but win your home games and it doesn't matter.

No chance. Game 7 has to be at the team's park with HVA

I'd leave it as is but seems 3-3-1 is most prudent if making a change. That Game 7 often isn't played so saves on travel. Also makes it more like a regular series of 3 games rather than having an off day after game 2. You can also build a lot of hype for Game 7 with the off day and get both teams at full strength.

only time i did sro i stood right behind 116 and enjoyed it.

best piece of advice is to get there as early as possible to stake out your preferred spot. bud area is probably good, won't have to go far for beer

3-3-1 eliminates the opportunity to clinch at home as the favorite unless G7. Either revert to 2-2-1-1-1 or leave it as 2-3-2, both of which afford the team with home field advantage to clinch at home prior to a G7.

I always assumed that the format was supposed to try to make it as even as possible.

3-3-1 gives the team without home field 3 of the 4 possible elimination games at home. That seems to me like an even bigger advantage than they have in 2-3-2.

Both are very congested. Heck, everything is for that matter. LF is a madhouse and you'll need to be in line by 4:00pm or earlier to get a spot... and you'll need to go in on Crawford Street entrance (LF). Any of the 1xx concourse area is crowded and you can't see a scoreboard anywhere, so you'll never know the pitch count, pitches thrown, who's up next, won't see replays, etc.

I'd say the centerfield upper level taco deck area. More space which affords you a bit of time to get there and stake out a spot.

how about 3-4? all elimination games at hva

really, the 'fairest' would be 1-1-1-1-1-1-1, but that would be ridiculous,, especially in something like a tampa/losangeles series

I've always been surprised they don't do a 2-2-1-1-1. Travel and playing the next day is nothing for these guys. They do it all season.

If they were keeping the NL pitcher batting rules, I'd suggest doing 2-3-2 but letting the home team decide if both teams use NL rules or AL rules for the entire series. You could really handicap an AL team that way. One of the most frustrating things about the games in ATL were the pitchers batting.

We plan on getting there at 3 for doors at 4.

I'm unfamiliar with the taco area. Is that the torchys area? Is it 2nd deck? If so do you take stairs to 2nd deck to get there or that spiral staircase in center.?

They have too many lefty pitchers to take advantage like we'd like to

But a 14 pitch outing would have just been his normal bullpen anyway

Tell that to Max Scherzer and Julio Urias... both were trash in their next starts when trying to do that same exact thing

To a point, meaning the intent is not to neutralize pitching advantages/disadvantages. Remember when Arizona won the WS basically with 2 starting pitchers against the Yankees? That type of thing isn't supposed to happen. If you give more days between games it screws up pitching. This doesn't affect any other sport in the same way.

14 high stress pitches in the WS plus however many he threw to get ready.

It's not the same as BP session.

Thats not exactly what happened.

Miguel Batista, who went 7,2 with 0 runs given up in his start. he had a 139 ERA+ during year. They had 2 dominant pitchers and one very good pitcher. That happens a lot in WS, so disagree with the position "its not supposed to happen"
