Since I went to the trouble of typing it out before the thread was locked, here's the post I tried to make on the (now) locked thread in premium "MLB Fan Distribution Chart." My response was in reply to MAROON's post noting that "The orange dot should cover most of Texas and all of Louisiana."

Yep... we had the advantage of being the only team in the South for nearly a decade before the Braves moved to Atlanta, and more than a decade before the Rangers moved to Texas. We also had the advantage, dating back to the sixties, of having a strong radio presence (second only to the Cardinals) throughout Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, and the Gulf Coast during those formative years.

Throw in the publicity and wonder (at the time) that went along with the building of the Astrodome, and the Astros had a strong grip on baseball allegiance in this region of the country. In those days the only team that could compete with the Astros in this region in terms of fan allegiance was the St. Louis Cardinals.

The result of off all that was the development of a strong generational brand affinity for the Astros across the region that exists to this day.

My great grandfather, for example, like so many others in South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley, became Astros fans in the sixties listening to the games on the radio. He lived in Rockport and listened to the games out of Corpus Christi radio.

Here's another anecdotal example of the residual effect of that regional brand affinity. I made a road trip about 20-something years ago to Alabama and back during baseball season... and every part of Louisiana and Mississippi that we drove through had local Astros affiliates to pick up the games on the radio.

So that 4th game in Chicago took out LMJ and Jake for the rest of the year....

I absolutely hate this move by Dusty/Click. (this isn't a 100% Dusty decision, the front office definitely played a hand in who starts when this series)

I know it's early in his career, but that's got to be a kick in the nuts for Meyers. Dude got called up, made the most of it, and contributed to a team who made the World Series. Only to get injured and not be able to play.

Front office? As in our analytics department who look at this sort of thing for a living?

I would've liked to have seen Garcia for game 2 as well. He's doing so much better at home.

I definitely disagree with starting Urquidy in game 2. It seems like we are overthinking it. Put your best guys up first.
