Correa. There's no way he passes up guaranteed money for something that might happen in two years. He could get hurt. He could be in a car accident. World War 3 could happen. He wants his payday and he's made that abundantly clear.
Yeah, I do think you're right in the end. It's just so hard to make the risk worth it from his standpoint.

I guess I'm just kinda surprised we've never seen reports of this kind of offer being made by a 2nd or 3rd tier payroll team like the Astros.

The only thing that makes me wonder if you couldn't convince Correa is that he's a 27 year old professional athlete, who in his own mind knows he is the best player on the planet. I bet it wouldn't take too much convincing for him to believe he'd still be that guy at 29.

Anyone have Crane's number? Tell him I have an idea.

Charlie Morton vs Chase Utley K (after having to bat in the 9th) is the single greatest pitch in Astros history

Just offering another way to look at it, but I think the greatest pitch in Astros history resulted in a routine 4-3 putout.

That HR ruined Lidge as an Astro but he recovered two years (maybe three?) later and I believe he led the NL in saves with the Phillies. A curse that seemed to always occur with departing pitchers/players in that era…

There had to be an odd man out and that was Springer. Astros will pony up the money unless the Angels start doing coke and offer Correa a half billion dollars.

They can't because they're about to pay Ohtani half a trillion dollars

Correa is a really good hitter, great shortstop with a cannon for an arm, and the team leader . He is extremely valuable . Having said that , I wouldn't go any more than 6 yrs at
Maybe $35mm per. Anything over that and it becomes about the lack of flexibility with the rest of the team. Maybe I'd do 4 yrs at $40mm per but $60mm per is just too much
6 years just doesn't make sense from Correa's standpoint. Especially at $35mill a year when he might get that for 10 years.

Of course $60mill is way too much to pay someone for one year, but the timing with Verlander and Greinke and the Astros current contracts situation makes it as sensible as it possibly can be.

These 10yr/$350+ mill deals are really two deals in one. 6 years at $45mill per and 4 years at $20mill per when it comes to the actual value of the player. These teams know they'll be lucky to get the true value for more than 6 or 7 years of the deal.

The current payroll for the Cubs in 2022 is $59mill. The Angels are definitely not the only team that will be in the running.

It was definitely a light.

They showed it move around then turn off.

And besides how the fack would Cora know what reflective tape is put up behind the CF wall.
A light, that wasn't a one-off occurrence.

That was at Yankee Stadium so they are probably both cheating

Your'e probably right . I think you just have to let him go if he wants 8-10 yrs and it's non-negotiable. Find your next core player to replace him. The back end is just too limiting imo. Hate it but the long term deals just never work out . The next guy probably will not be as good and i get that but it allows you to spread your risk among more young guys that will be the future. The Astros aren't the Yankees when it comes to throwing money around and that's a good thing imo

Backe threw 8 one hit shutout innings in game 5 of the 2004 NLCS which put us up 3-2. Game was 0-0 until Kent hit the walk off. Talk about pressure.

I don't want to talk about the rest of the series.

Seriously, **** Albert Pujols. He turned Light out Lidge into Lit up Lidge and he never recovered.

At least not with Houston he didnt

Completely agree. No chance I give him 10 years. Will he be a plus SS at age 32? 34? Being committed to a 35-37 year old 1B/3B with limited power at $35mill a year is a debilitating contract for a team like the Astros.

We've seen enough from Correa to let him walk. We all know this year was about getting paid. He's mister coast and every slight injury is vacation time as soon as he gets paid.

I love how he embraces the hate and competes but he's not a after a big contract guy. My opinion.

Nearly as bad as Joe Buck's commentary.

Paying JV $30 mil this season to stay at home with Kate Upton didn't seem to slow them down

I don't know what the right decision is on the Correa contract is.
I do know if Crane signs him he becomes the most beloved owner in Houston history , all sports.
Maybe top five all time anywhere.
I do not know if that matters to him. Egos are hungry animals.

Different cat. Fired AJ and Luhnow when he could've suspended them. He at least is indicating the Astros will put in a serious offer

Who knows, with inflation running as hot as it is, 35M/yr may seem like a bargain if he's still performing in 5 years

"We need to get ready to play 7 games.. you know.. we don't quit. This club house still has a good attitude. We are going to play 2 games in Houston.... For a fact. For sure. Yeah."

Guaranteed wins don't normally work out for the team making the guarantee.

If that 30mill was the back end of a 10 year deal, that'd be a good point.

I don't think the Astros would have any problem at all paying Correa $35mill over the next 6 years. But, there is no way Correa would take that deal.
