that would be tough --- need the A's to quit on the season...and they just might

Let me rephrase my deleted tweet, the only DIVISION LEADING team in the AL that seems to be peaking at the right time is the Astros. Red Sox playing well, will continue to not believe in their starting pitching. Blue Jays very unproven. Astros may be emerging as the favorites.

They should look into that guy managing the Tigers. I bet he could work magic with this teamHarry Dunne said:
Name a current or recent manager you would not trade Dusty for.
I can only come up with Jeff Banister, Tony LaRussa and Aaron Boone.

Yep. The freakout in August was kinda funny. We were resting guys, trying out guys for next year, etc and still maintaining a 5+ game lead. We're so much better than every other AL west team. Wide ass open.W said:
kind of funny...when it's all said and done...the Astros may win the division by 10 or 11 games
The months of later July and in to August I think show that this team is offensively bipolar. They have super high highs and super low lows and snap between them immediately. Their highs are better than anyone else. Their lows make them average at best. Its very strange. Yes all teams have this but we dont seem to have anything in between. Right now they are on the offensive high and its fun. When they go cold all at once its hard to watch.Deluxe said:Yep. The freakout in August was kinda funny. Concern was warranted based on the play on the field. Let's not kid ourselves and say we weren't benefiting from the A's plummeting. we are very fortunate that they fell hard. Given the caliber of opponents that were coming into MMP and sweeping us or winning series against us, the division lead could be ALOT closer if the A's played the way they were the first few months. The A's are 34-35 over the past 3 months. They were 48-34 before that. Had they maintained that pace, the division would be close to tied right nowDeluxe said:Yep. Couldn't disagree more. It helps to focus more on the macro than the micro. We're heading into October with as good a chance as anyone to win the World Series, which was really easy to see coming.tjack16 said:Concern was warranted based on the play on the field. People "freaking out" was stupid. But there was and is still cause for concern when it comes to us winning the world series over potentially a team like San Fran, LA, or Milwaukee.

This was an interesting fangraphs article on Yuli and Jose Abreu regarding HOF counterfactuals. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/should-yuli-gurriel-and-jose-abreu-be-hall-of-famers/

Surely he's not who we're pinning our hopes on next year at SS, right?
Maybe if he didn't have so many holes in his pants, we'd value his opinion more.Deluxe said:tjack16 said:

Understood. I still love and respect you almost as much as Farmer1906.

Agreed. Don't want any part of Toronto right now.
Thru 90% of the season, I would say, no, but now I am kind of changing my tune.texasaggie2015 said:
We're very within reach of catching Tampa Bay.
Would we rather face Chicago though? I almost feel better about playing them than the chance of facing a red hot Toronto team. Boston doesn't scare me.
