With the amount of pitching changes we might have, I think Maldy is better option with no one on base leading off that inning.

Maybe if we have 2 on I would agree to pinch hit, but it is still only subbing out a .200 hitter for a .280 hitter with several innings remaining behind plate.

I hear that and understand that.

But Maldy is an automatic out essentially and we just made Eovaldi work the previous inning. Maybe a long AB or a hit would have kept some pressure up.

Instead an easy 3 pitch out.

I see the reasoning for keeping him in and don't disagree much, but I also felt like it might have been a chance to roll the dice a bit.

When you're down six with 15 outs to go, the leadoff batter is huge and can disrupt a pitcher's rhythm if he gets on. Crowd gets more into it. I'd much rather take the extra % chance of getting and roll with Castro the rest of the game.
