Weird that Taylor didn't even seem upset about it either.

That's one reason I just assumed t was the right call.
Taylor stayed focused so he could do his job. No one in the history of baseball has argued their way into getting a call changed.

Getting upset is Dusty's job. You can't change the call but you can at least let them know they blew it and get in their heads and get a makeup call later on.

Dusty can lose his isht out there as he pleases, he doesn't have to get the next better out...and if he gets tossed it's probably a net positive...and it couldn't hurt to let your team know you have their back FFS.

I'm pretty sure they know Dusty has their back. He's stood up for them a handful of times already this season.

And I didn't mean upset like argue but typically when that happens the pitcher asks what was wrong. Seems like there's usually a brief discussion between the umpire and pitcher about what was seen that was illegal.

I have watched every game this season. Dusty has a bad combination of stoic demeanor and lack of tactical brilliance.

Taylor was very visibly upset. He just knows he's not going to get that call changed. Maybe he knew he balked and was upset at himself more than anything. To be fair to Dusty, maybe it was more obvious on the field. Nobody looked surprised.

I'm pretty unclear on the balk rule TBH. I can't remember what a opposing pitcher recently did a little dance before every pitch and I posted about it and some others agreed that he balked every time and it was not called because it was his "routine". Just another example of where rules in baseball are not enforced evenly.

Let's just take the next two and get back on track.

Really need Springer and Altuve to turn back into themselves.

This

That's what I'm saying was weird and why at the time I just assumed it was a clear cut balk. Like you I'm not always quick to pick up on those things and kinda use the reaction of the pitcher and manager.

Last night it seemed everyone was OK with the call but after seeing the replays I still can't see what he did wrong.

Re: the balk, on second look, it seems Taylor twitched after the came set, then stepped off the mound. The twitch, ever so slightly, led to the call. He may have been adjusting against the rubber. I've seen a lot less not called a balk.

The sloppy play imo had to do with the long layoff. Thanks, Laura. Thanks, Oakland. They may also be looking ahead to the upcoming series with the A's.

Let's take the next two.

It was not our night. We shot ourselves in the foot repeatedly.

We also ran into some **** luck. Look at this.
Andrus HR had an xBA of .090, 92 Exit Velo, 360 ft.
Tucker's "Line Out" had an xBA of .930, 103 Exit Velo, 395 ft.

I was almost in this boat, except I got drunk and woke up with a damn hangover. Would have been better off watching the game instead

So 8 games in Oakland, 2 in Houston. Yeah, nothing to see here.

MLB is still punishing the Astros.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

Yup, the exact attitude this team needs.

If Breggy is able to come back on this road trip, I really hope he comes back for the Oakland series and absolutely rakes their pitching.

to me it's no big deal. No fans in the stands makes it not as effective.

Except for the fact Oakland is 13-4 at home versus 9-8 away.

Conversely, we are 14-6 at home and 5-9 away.

I'd say that's a big deal, fans or not.

Players across the league have said that being on the road this year is really tough with having to quarantine at the hotel.

Makes a HUGE difference this year.

Exactly. With the division race expected to be tight, this is a huge advantage for the A's. I say we have somebody on the traveling staff feel "weird" before the last two scheduled games and force a DH back in Houston. Screw em all.

Didn't realize the splits were that bad. I still think if we are truly the better team then we should win 3 out of 5 against them no matter where it's played. I'm not overly worried or angry about it being in Oakland.
