What does the farm look like for Houston?
we had the #2 Win/Loss record in all of MLB this season for all minor league classifications. Now that doesn't always correlate to star players, but its positive.

Well it was a good two year run, but I have to pass the official thread starting baton to new blood.

My stats:

1-0 World Series
1-1 LCS
2-0 LDS
2-0 Division Title
2-0 Playoff appearances

All I can say is let's go Milwaukee!!! I want a Midwestern small market team to win it all. Screw the MLB and their desire for East/West coast winners.

In regards to next years team here are my thoughts.....DO NOT overpay for Dallas, which I am sure Lunhow won't, but the yankees surely will. As I have said before his cy-young season was a fluke of a year. everything went his way. He is a solid major league pitcher, but not top tier which he thinks he is. Let him walk.

This teams biggest need IMO is a middle of the order bat. Someone the other team fears in regards to the long ball. Bregman was that this season to a degree, but we need another to add protection so that he sees pitches. Correa hopefully can turn in to that, but until proven otherwise he is not there.

I know it will probably never happen, but I would love to see Bryce Harper in an Astros uniform. Turn him into a Lance Berkman clone, steadily transition him into a 1B. The reason I say "probably" is because Lunhow always seems to have a trick up his sleeve and I will never say never with him.

Let's talk a little about Dallas. I don't want to commit too much money long term, but he's a damn good pitcher.

Look at the last 2 years. Take out the "fluke of the year" and his injury-ridden 2016.

Where Dallas ranks for American League Starters (min 200 IP)

WAR - 14th (6.0)
ERA - 11th (3.39)
FIP - 14th (3.73)
xFIP - 13th (3.62)
WHIP - 17th (1.23)
IP - 8th (350.1)
Wins - 11th (26)

I think its pretty clear Dallas is a top 10-15 starter in this league. Guys like him don't grow on trees. He's 30 years old, doesn't have much injury history, is a workhorse, has big stage experience, and has an exceptional work ethic. I would think with his pitching style (non power) he should age well. In general, I am against given pitchers long term big money deals. I would be 100% on board with a Jake Arrieta deal (3 year 75 M). It keeps our pitching staff very strong with Dallas/JV/Cole for the next year at a minimum. Anyone who can run these 3 guys out in the postseason has a chance to win it all. I want to keep that window wide open.

It's pretty much a no-brainer that Whitley is going to be up in the majors for at least part of next year right?

Best case : he kills it, ends up making the postseason roster, either in the rotation, or as a long relief guy
Worst case : hit or miss, ends up like 2018 Tucker.

Or am I crazy?

I am with you on the 3 year deal 100%.....What I am more or less referring to is giving him a 6 year deal or something long term which you don't agree with either.....I just don't want to give him the long term deal he is wanting. He is a good pitcher like I said, but not a lock down for long term type of good pitcher!

I know he ended up giving up the 2 run jack but Josh James looked awesome the other night. He was dealing and with his change of speed looked really tough then he started spinning that breaking ball. For a bit he looked untouchable.

I'm really looking forward to his future holds. Both him and Framber

I still don't understand what happened....

Well I do. Half the team succumbed to pressure. And I believe that half were all new members of the team?

Again, I don't think they cracked under pressure.

They were down multiple times and fought back to regain the lead multiple times with some pretty clutch hits. The only game that wasn't back and forth was Game 3 and that's because they took the lead late.

They just got outplayed.

Maldonado was solid all year. How many runs were from passed balls/wild pitches?

I think our core guys were solid. Handful of the new guys were not.

I don't want to be that guy who says "the better team didn't win", but I'm going to walk that line. We were by most metrics every bit as good or better than Boston. They simply outplayed us in the series this week. They earned it, no doubt about it. But if we play them again in 2 weeks we might sweep them. Play 2 weeks later and then it goes 7. Playoff baseball is just like that.

Yep. The ALCS is less than 5% sample size compared to the full regular season.

Any team in the league can lose 4 of 7 to any other team if the bounces go certain ways.

Edit to say a 7 game series is 4.3% of the regular season.
