More to the fact that he brought Devo in at all. No need to. Multiple times we've had a pitcher cruise through the 8th on minimal pitches and then we bring in someone new who promptly ****s the bed in the 9th.
Yes. That's correct. This is on Hinch. Rondon looked sharp and Devo was pitching for the 3rd day in a row.

It's not so much that as many of you say, we have an adequate bullpen.
It's that once we get to the postseason - the obvious goal - it is hard to have a lot of faith in the bullpen as currently comprised.

We rocked Kenley Jansen when he went the 8th and 9th twice in the World Series. He had hardly ever done that.
Are you absolutely confident in Rondon without knowing his career in those situations.

I would prefer we leave in a pitcher regardless of who it is when he absolutely cruises in the inning before and only throws a handful of pitches.
If giles was out tonight and devo would be pitching for the third day even more reason to do so.
Hinch did this multiple times the first month of the season riding the hot hand into the 8th and 9th and has gotten away from it for some reason
I'm not mad at the BP tonight. I'm pissed at our inability to capitalize and for Hinch using an archaic formula just because "you're supposed to."
6 batters, 4 have reached base so far.
Not 100% confident... but when guys show they have it on a given night, why not roll with what's working?

The formula works whenever you bring in a closer. Bringing in a guy like a Devo who has shown to be shaky in the 9th is the issue.

And devo absolutely mowed down the Indians in the 8th that game on a handful of pitches and what did we do?...trotted out somebody new in giles for the 9th just for the sake of making a move and choked up the lead.
Devo was sharp that game and hitting corners... why screw around with that simply to bring in someone new?

It does not matter. After his arm cools down between innings, the next 3 pitches could be completely out of control.
Relievers are weird. You don't find many that can close an inning, wait for your team to bat, and come out firing in the next inning. Like I said, putting Devo in was a bad decision but I don't think pulling Rondon was a bad decision.WelchAg said:Beat40 said:.Mr.Bond said:

The reality is that the previous inning has no bearing on the upcoming inning.
You look at matchups and decide you want based on that.
Rondon or Devo? Most all of us would choose Devo.
He just didn't execute. The walk was bad and nowhere close. He didn't look sharp at all.

Gardner's ball had a 31% hit probability. He did not hit it that well so hard to be that critical of Devo and Hinch. I think it is fair to question the decision, but the issue I have is that most people on here always assume the other alternative would have definitely worked. Hinch has left guys in in the past and it has worked sometimes and sometimes it has not, but I guarantee the same people complaining about this move would have been complaining had Rondon stayed in and given up the HR instead.
He is not infallible. This is a in-game thread for crying out loud. What do you expect? Managers get paid to be second guessed. Nobody is trying to take away his ring. Why have game threads if all we do is sing the virtues of every move? Devo pitched 3 straight games. Devo blew the lead. You will get second guesses. Just part of baseball.
I can't tell if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me. But you're right, if Hinch left Rondon in and he gave up that HR, people here would be crying about how Hinch could trust Rondon in that situation. There are a lot of nancies on these threads, you can't talk logically with them.rosco511 said:

I guess that's not the base you're going to plus one when the ball goes into the dugout? Must not be.
