It's almost the end of May. JV gives up 1ER, 3 hits and 1 BB in 6.0 IP. And both his ERA and WHIP for the season go up. Yeah. That a rough outing.

for real... last night at the game when Cole gave up the 2 run homer, the guy next to me said "wow he's having an off night"

if 6 IP 2 ER is an off night... then I think we will be alright

I was thinking about some of the great Verlander starts we've squandered this year and wanted to see how common it was for a pitcher to dominate so much in a loss.

As it turns out...not very common. Verlander has Games Scores of 90 & 86 this year in two of his losses. That puts him in the top 10 list of all time (as far as I can tell) when accounting for nine or fewer innings pitched (longer games give you the opportunity for higher scores).

I'm sourcing a blog that used Baseball Reference numbers. Since this was published, James Shields had a 94 in a nine inning loss & Rich Hill had a 91 in the same scenario.

On a side note, Gerrit Cole has the highest Game Score of the season with 100. He's one of only 9 pitchers to (ever) do so in 9 innings.

TLDR....pretty ****ing amazing pitching staff we have. Let's just spread the runs around a little better!

I thought the same thing, to be honest, we have just become so accustomed to just 1 or 0 runs being given up. Eventually this staff will go through a rough patch and be normal-like.

Class of 16.... but I graduated in May 2017. So when I made my Texags profile (junior year) I thought your class was whatever year you were going to graduate

I've tried to get my username changed to 16 but they haven't accepted my request
