I'd rather be a fan base that shows some passion, versus what we are currently. Been to a game this year or last when we are good? It takes bottom 9 before fans get on their feet. I want our fans to show some passion, good or bad. You've never heard players hate the fan bases in NY or Philly (even tho I hate them). Players want a fan base that demands something from them.

Aren't you the guy that is constantly telling people it's may..clap clap clap and to relax?

It's not me you were referring to with those words but I do find that ironic as wanting to boo our team off the field

And I stand by that. I'm not freaking out about this team the rest of the year. But why is it criminal to be voice your displeasure with a series? I'm not a fan of booing one particular player, its a team game.

To me, going to MMP feels closer to watching a movie than a baseball game sometimes. Fans are so lethargic it's pathetic. I've been to three Home games this year. One was the WS rings game, the other the Ohtani start. Those were apparently two of the most exciting games this year. It didn't feel that way at home. Numerous times me and my friend were the only ones standing in our section at big moments. Once we we're asked to sit down. Watch the games. The only time the stadium gets on their feet is in the 9th with two outs.

Now, I understand I'm telling this to fellow Astros fans that are passionate and don't fall into the category I described. I'm just voicing my overall displeasure with how our fans often times are pathetic during the games

My flight left Austin right after we scored our 4th run, we collapsed while I was midair

Only problem, I'm now in PHX to watch the Dbacks series

What a dumpster fire this last week has been. For the most part, starting pitchers were outstanding. The rest of the players & coaching staff decided to take the week off.

The best thing this team can now do is to take their show on the road. If they turn it around, good for them (and for us). If they don't, I don't have a whole lot of confidence in their product.

The front office also has work to do.

This week reminds me way too much of last August.

that's going to be very interesting. What is the front office's priority at the trade deadline...and how many more prospects are there in the minors to deal?

the bench is a disaster with Gattis, Marisnick, and Fisher all hitting below .200 with 30 K's each. Frankly the Astros don't have a bench.

also we know Hinch likes to rest players, but the team can't afford to sit Springer, Altuve, or Correa right now. I think both Springer and Altuve have played in all 33 games. That won't/can't continue

Springer was the DH a couple games ago. Doesn't hurt us defensively when he is not out in the field. Just need Jake to hit better.

But don't read the pep talk yet. I don't want to burn that one in May. Might have to use the same format again later this year at some point.

Can we bring Beltran back?
I think it's more the hitting coach we lost to the Red Sox. Just my opinion.
Did our hitters forget everything he taught them over the span of 4 months?
Amazing the turn around for both teams.

Does anyone else think Gatttis is looking a lot softer physically than when he first came over from the Braves?

He's about to turn 32, so age is probably part of it. He's also such a naturally burly dude that it's harder to tell, but I feel like he looks more like a middle-aged former football player whereas before he just looked like a football player.

Or am I just being a jerk because he's not hitting?

I was at the game yesterday. Field level 1b side Lots of Yankees fans talking (fairly harmless) **** in my section but the Astros fans did a good job of being vocal and giving it back to them a little bit.

Season ticket holder for almost 20 years here I guess comparing our crowds & our fans to what they have been in the past I don't really think it's that bad. Heck of a crowd for a weekday day game and at least from what I saw 80%+ of it was Astros, which is pretty decent for a Yankees game.

At the end of the day it's a bad homestand. They happen. We had em last year.

Time to get up and dust yourself off and get a W tomorrow and aim to take the series in AZ.

BTW I heard AZ is starting a 30 year old AAA call up tomorrow.
By tomorrow morning he'll be a Cy Young contender.

I was relieved to see that he's 30 years old and has a good handful of MLB time.

If it was a rookie we hadn't seen before I'd be close to calling it a auto win for ARZ. We're historically dreadful seeing guys for the first time.

Arizona must not have a lot of options for spot starts from the minors. His pitching this year has been pretty bad in the minors:

0-3
6 ERA
19 Hits against in 4 games
3 HRs given up in 4 games
8 BBs to 18 SOs

He's actually 32. He hasn't pitched in the majors since he was 30 where he went 1-3 with an 7.77 ERA with KC

We really need a good bullpen arm and we've needed it for a long time. Hoping we can pick one up this year but I honestly have no idea who is even available.

I was hoping Smith or Rondon would be good but they've both been terrible.

Agree with this thought. When he came over we started calling him turd muscles because he looked so strong we figured his turds even has muscles. I think that's changed a bit

I'm not entirely sure where the idea that Rondon has been terrible is coming from thus far into 2018.

In 11 IP, he's got a 2.45 ERA with 11 SOs and 3 walks. His WHIP at 1.364 is a little concerning, but overall, he has been very effective this year.

Of course, it could blow up as he is used more and the season goes on.

Last season he lost the gut and trimmed down some. Wonder if he went overboard on the diet and lost some muscle too.

We could maybe get an idea of any muscle loss if he would actually put the bat on the ball. Just hard to tell when he jumps and misses at every pitch.

Is it likely that Tyler White will be here soon? Why did Davis make the roster instead of him when Yuli was put on the DL? They had about the same number of plate appearances with the Astros last season, and White's OPS was about a hundred points higher. And they have comparable stats with Fresno so far.

I haven't heard of Aoki so far this year so I checked and it looks like he's back in Japan. I know he's kind of old, but wouldn't a .270 hitter look good at the bottom of our lineup?

You know that Lunhow and Hinch are talking every day about what can be done to give the lineup a spark. Any other options short of a trade?

Davis killed it in Spring Training. Was probably the hottest hitter in the league is Spring Training so that's probably why he got the roster spot over White. Since going back down to AAA, Davis has actually out hit White but just with fewer walks and less power

Norichika Aoki, OF
2017 clubs: Houston Astros, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets

Age: 31 (32 on Feb. 6, 2019)

2017 stats: .274 average, 234 AB, 32 runs, 64 hits, 13 doubles, 1 triple, 5 HR, 27 RBIs, 5 SB, 2 CS, 16 BB, 34 K, 83 games.

Free agency: Signed three-year, $9-million contract to play in Japan with the Nippon Professional Baseball's Yakult Swallows on Jan. 30.

$9million would be tough to match to bring him back here.

Preston got optioned today for Bautista

Quote:

1:38pm: The Braves have now announced that Bautista's contract has been select. Outfielder Preston Tucker was optioned to Triple-A to open a spot on the active roster for Bautista.

After a blistering start to the season, Tucker's bat has unsurprisingly come back down to Earth in recent weeks. He's posted a .218/.246/.364 slash over his past 57 plate appearances with the Braves.

So Preston struggles for a week and the Braves eject on him that quickly... yet we have 2-3 players struggling worse than Preston's last 57 ABs over the course of 6 weeks and they are still not being replaced. smh

I'll be curious how Bautista does with the Braves. He is something who I though would be a good option for us this year.

at this rate White or Davis or both will get another shot.

this isn't going to work:

Gattis........190 BA & 28 K's
Marisnick...164 BA & 35 K's
Fisher........170 BA & 27 K's

Marwin not much better at .229 and 32 Ks. Hopefully he gets off the snide soon.....

The part where you compare optioning a AAAA player for a perennial All Star and optioning one of our struggling players for prospects with 300 ML ABs.

I get what you're saying but it's a completely different situation.
