Did they gave some of the employees the option of getting a ring or a cash equivalent of a ring? For some people that could potentially really help (paying off debt, down payment for a car, who knows) and it would save them from having to sell it if they could use the money more.

I know in a perfect world everyone that works for the Astros loves the team so much they'd never think of selling it, but in reality some of them are definitely going to sell them.

One of my best friends works for the Cubs. They had to sign a form stating they would never sell the ring and that they can be sued over it or something. Not sure of the exact statement, but it was worded out lawyer stuff that they all had to sign before getting their ring.

Surely there's no way that would hold up...

It's a right of first refusal. Not uncommon.

I think it would have been a nice gesture to give people the option. Like, if you opt for the ring, then you have to sign the contract not to sell it or give the club right of first refusal or whatever. Or you can opt for a cash bonus.

For the ones that really love the Astros and want the ring, there's no change, but for some people even a few thousand dollars could be a pretty life-changing amount.

Anyway, just a random thought this morning.

Don't forget, the value of the ring is taxable income. For some of the employees, that could be $3,000-$4,000 in extra taxes. I wonder if the Astros will give them a small cash bonus to cover the taxes?

Yeah I just saw the last post on the previous page.

My friend works as a part time employee in the front office for the Astros. She said the ring you get depends on how high up you are. For example, her ring had no diamonds at all in it. In comparison a friend of hers full time had "fake" diamonds in hers. And then, those higher then her likely have real diamonds but to varying degrees

They made four grades of rings:

A - players, owner, GM
B - high end front office people...I'm not certain but I think the trainers and those who travel with the team fall into this category. I think Blum, sparks fall into this group as well
C - park middle Mgmt, mid level accountants, admins etc
D - everyone else

I've saw grade B a few months back and it's blinged out. The big fat diamond inside the trophy on the side is still there and the 2017 on the side is completely filled in with diamonds etc. top looks almost the same with same gems for most part

Grade C is where most (if not all) the diamonds are removed and I think they remove the blue sapphires on top for something else.

I think Judge hitting a lot of solo homeruns is more a reflection on the guys batting before him's inability to get on base.
