It's like this for maybe a couple weeks a season when it's a bad winter. It's been a rough April weather wise here. You build an outdoor stadium here because the summers are amazing and it's criminal to play indoor baseball in the summer when it's 80 outside.
Both teams have to deal with it, we just sucked last night, and I braved the cold to watch it.
Today it'll be at least 45 around first pitch. I'll be sitting first row behind the tarp on the third base line.

Now this is a crazy idea, not sure if it even will ever exist. But wouldn't it be great if they could build a stadium that had a roof that you could close for bad weather and open for good weather?

Minnesota went from having the Vikings, Twins, and Gophers all at the Metrodome to each of them playing in separate stadiums. Now the Twins and Gophers play outside. That's a lot of money to spend on stadiums.
All that additional expense, and most stadiums with the retractable option are open what, maybe 10% of the time? It's an interesting debate on which option. Atlanta, which gets pretty damn hot, went open air with their new stadium.irish pete ag06 said:Pahdz said:

Yeah, they don't have the awkwardness of US Bank Stadium here sitting next to the old decrepit MetrodomeFrok said:Max Power said:

They at least tore down the old one and didn't try to turn it in to "conference space"

I just came back from the holy land and there were a lot of places we were standing in the spot that an important building used to stand. Since that trip, i have more appreciation for trying to save the first indoor stadium.
Did you ever make it to Yankee? That place wasn't nice. It wasn't Shea bad, but it was ugly. It was nothing like Fenway or Wrigley with all the historical feel intact. Yankee must have had too many facelifts and renovations over the years and lost what made it special.Harry Dunne said:Psych said:Frok said:Max Power said:

I have always wanted to save the Dome, if feasible, because I have such great memories there but comparing a sports stadium to the holy land is a big stretch, for me at least.
New York and all their teams can suck it but you have to at least respect their tradition. If Yankee Stadium wasn't worth saving, I don't see how the dome is. If it's going to be self-sustaining and beneficial than great, but at the end of the day it's just sports. We are not talking about the Alamo.

I agree about the Dome, I just wanted to drop in my thoughts on Yankee.

I realize you're not trying to say they are equal in importance and get the sentiment - I'm not trying to make fun of you...but to me that's like saying that a visit to the Alamo inspired you to want to keep your childhood treehouse in your old backyard. Cool If it doesn't cost millions of people hundreds of millions of dollars.
