Giles was not good but his run was pointless.

Guys looked flat and off balance at the plate. Kinda seemed like they showed up thinking their talent alone would be enough to win and the Padres would lay down.

Really weird night. Team seemed flat, crowd seemed subdued, and everything just felt off for some reason.

Maybe it's just the adrenaline crash from the first series with all the hoopla and festivities.

That's not saying he can't find it again. He probably will, but until then, he is going to get ripped.

I still think a bullpen piece is the odds on favorite for an addition at the deadline.

As much as he gets bagged on, when his slider is on, he's one of the best in the game statistically over the last few seasons.

There was a time when the sliders of Giles and Gregerson were statistically two of the most unhittable pitches in baseball. Actually, I seem to remember a stat that they were 1-2 in swings and misses.

He was hitting 94 to 96 with good sink. Maybe I'm missing the sarcasm, but he had great stuff last night. Not saying the hitters could not have taken advantage, but they didn't.

This.

These guys are major league pitchers for a reason. Some may lack consistency but all have good enough stuff to get hitters out when they are on. If you look at the all-time list of no-hitters there are some pretty average pitchers that have thrown them.

We caught a guy with his good stuff. Still could have won the game if just one swing connected at the right time, which with this team will happen more often than not.
