Has Fisher really been much better than Jake? Could he be next if he continues his decline?

After I read the comments when Cole gave up 2 in the 1st I told myself I was done for the night. I didn't come back in here until Altuve came through.

It was very nice to watch the game and not have to read all the BS, but it's sad that we're only half way through May and I've already had to step back and take a break for the board.

Having Stanton in the booth really makes you realize how lucky we are to have Blum. Stanton is absolute garbage

I feel you. I rarely look at or post on the board during games anymore.

I like seeing Bregman in this spot

And still think one of fisher or Jake needs to get Sent down and give someone else a chance. They are basically the same player except one can throw the ball home from the outfield and the other can't

He does. Just scheduled off this week

Here's the deal the Astros have seen what Jake can do as he has been in the majors for some time. On the other hand the Astros need to see what Fisher can do and there is no drop off on speed and fielding so send Marisnik down and let Fisher have a shot. Also, if you bring up Davis, let's see if he can provide some pop to the lineup.

I'm not panicking, but I do think Kemp, White, or Davis would add more to this offense than Fisher or Marisnick.

I can agree with that 100%. Feels like this lineup could use more contact at the bottom on the lineup. Those guys would likely add it.

I really wish White would get another shot, but the problem with him is position. He showed some improvement in his stretch up here last season and has actually walked more than he has struck out while having a greater than 1.000 OPS this year.

Yeah, yet another "deepest he's gone" night for an opposing pitcher, man this is frustrating.
Think about how our opponents must feel. If we had a decent closer and DH we'd be about 40-1 right now.
At least!

In years past I'd probably be right there with them, it's funny what a World Series championship does for my patience with this team.
I know. I've been a calmer poster throughout the years. Don't bleed often (except about DoLittle, I will always bleed about that), but many of you guys should ENJOY this. Reigning World Series champs that look to be an even better team when they start clicking on all cylinders. If we get down or get shutout, who cares, there's a game coming tomorrow and we still get a freshly made ring.

I think Kemp will get the call. Need another OF and Davis had a chance early this year. Let's give Kemp another shot.

I watch a LOT of baseball. I am a coach/teacher and it's my summer TV. I'll typically put on a day game or an east coast game, switch and watch the Astros, then switch to a west coast game to finish off the night. I would venture to say that there are some summer days that baseball is on my TV for 9 hours a day. It's great TV to watch "passively" where you can still do things around the house but keep up with what's going on.

I say that to say this, Blum is one of the best color guys in the game. Without question.

Well I'm eating my plate of crow. I was in the camp that Lunhow would never send a vet to the minors.

I agree. I think Tyler White would be a starting 1st baseman for 10-12 MLB teams and would be a 105-110 wRC+ guy at least. He just happens to play for the World Champs right now and it's hard to crack the roster.

I like Stanton if for no other reason that he is different than Blum and more "old school" in the way he talks about the game. I definitely prefer Blum because he is funnier and he talks about analytics a ton and I like learning about the different stats.

Watched the condensed game. Couple things:

  • Josh Reddick is such a joy to watch play this game. There is never anything resembling a loaf and he's genuinely pissed when he doesn't make plays. I feel like his competitiveness is the highest on the team.
  • Look at this freakin pitch Altuve yanked into the LF corner. I never want to hear the "hitting experts" on this thread talk about him being too far away from the plate again.

I 100% agree. Blum understands his role, which a lot of color guys (especially Stanton) struggle to do. Blum is able to keep the commentary fun, while still adding good insight.

I'll also add that I enjoy listening to Kalas

Oh he talks about the game alright

But seriously Stanton is good on the post game shows because that's a better platform to talk a lot, but that much talking in game is just a beating.

Not sure why they didn't give Preston Wilson a shot to do color with TK. I like him and think he'd be a way better option and would leave Stanton on post game where he's better.

My problem with Stanton is that he feels the need to comment on everything

Altuve may be better at hitting balls out of the zone than strikes. It's like he enjoys it more.

I don't have TV, so I usually either go to the park or listen on the radio. Sparks and Ford are an excellent pair.

Re: Stanton

He's a downgrade from Blum for sure, but I will say I've enjoyed some of his more in depth pitching analysis and just a pure pitcher perspective on certain things.

Listening to either of them reminds me of how much I miss Larry Dierker. He was a student of the game, knew a ton of its history (especially the Astros), and had a good sense of humor. And he could actually go through one inning without talking about his own career.

The awesome part about Reddick is both times I knew he'd throw the runner out. Honestly surprisingly stupid to challenge Reddick twice like that. He showed why you shouldn't.

Huge props to him last night for saving a run, getting trout out at third, and hustling out a double and a great slide into 2nd. Guy put the team on his shoulders last night, and Altuve did his Altuve thing.

The Astros optioned Jake Marisnick to Triple A.
yep, that's what I postulated a couple of days ago. Can't be hitting in the .140 range. And can't have both Jake & Fisher on the roster together...with below .200 BA's

I agree with this. IMO Deshaies was the very best. I was pretty bummed when he left.

Blum is very good and I like that, like JD, he played for the Stros and has a personal connection to the team, a ton of baseball knowledge and a lot of great anecdotes.

If I have any criticism of Blum its that he's a little too much of a bro. Kalas is the perfect foil for that, because he's such an old school straight man.

Where can I find the condensed version of the game? I'm still a Dish Network subscriber and they don't have Root Sports. (Yes, they piss me off and I need to switch to something else soon.) So, I miss most games and have to listen in a lot via Sirius XM.

Agree with this. Ford is really, really good, IMO. Sparks complements him well.
