We've got some award announcements coming up which should put a wrap on the season thread. Should probably move on over to the offseason thread after that. Winter meetings start Dec 10.

So I know the ring ceremony and celebration will happen likely at the home opener.... but we play the Rangers at home a week and a half into the season. How sweet would it be if they delayed the ring ceremony two weeks so we could get them while the Rangers are in town.

So I finally decided to cut AT&T U-Verse since I can watch Aggie Baseball on Youtube or Hulu; and I figured I have several months to figure out my Astros problem since AT&T Sports is not in any package.

I called AT&T, and they asked why I wanted to cancel. I stated $40 a month for the same channels I watch is better than $120 (before a discount) a month they were offering. They first offered 3 free months of HBO. When I turned that down, they came back with "they are a 100% reliable network". I hate AT&T.

This would honestly have 0 impact on how sweet the ring ceremony would be in my opinion. Who gives a **** who we're playing when it happens?

We could all split a Direct Tv account and then just share the login and we can all steam it?

I don't post too much....mainly just a lurker, but I wanted to get this post down before everyone moves over to the off season thread.

I wanted to tell everyone on this thread how much I've enjoyed sharing this amazing season with y'all. As a lifelong Astros fan, I wasn't sure if I would ever see the Astros win the World Series. After so many years of coming up short, it was almost a relief just to see it finally happen. I think I'm still in some sort of shock. Did it really happen? I keep waiting to wake up, Only to realize it was just a crazy dream.

I grew up going to the Dome, as an Astros Buddy, and some of my favorite memories are going to games as a youngster. I use to love going to Antone's to get sandwiches and sneaking them in in my mom's purse. Or standing in line for my free pack of Grandmother's Cookies baseball cards. I can still remember the way the Dome use to smell, and the distinct sound the ball coming off the bat would make. It truly was some of the best times getting to go to games with my mom, dad, and sister.

I was only 6, but I still remember sitting in the car and listening to the last half inning of Mike Scott's no hitter to clinch the division in '86. And I vividly remember my mom running through the house screaming because of Billy Hatcher's home run to tie it in extras against the Mets. All of the heartbreak from '86 through '05 was replaced with overwhelming joy when the final out was made last Wednesday night. I immediately started thinking about my grandmother, who loved the Astros, and how she must've been looking down on this and how excited she must've been. Then, as many of you probably did, I called my dad, and began crying my first tears of joy over any sporting event I have ever experienced.

So, from one Astros fan to many others, thank you all.
This year's thread was almost as much fun, and therapeutic, for me as the games were.

Go Stros!!

I have your solution to the Astros problem. This works on Roku and Apple TV -- not Fire Stick, Chromecast or other Android-based devices. I wrote up a lengthy post on The Nerdery about cord cutting, and what I've learned. I'd go with a SMART DNS service and subscribe to MLB.tv. If you pay month-to-month, it will cost you about $30/mo for Astros. If you buy the season outright, it will cost you about $20/mo (about the equivalent of a ticket per month). I went month-to-month for the first three months of the season, then MLB.tv had a flash sale in June for $10 for the rest of the season. I jumped on that.

Cord Cutting for Beginners

Here's the part about the Astros and MLB:

MLB
This is tricky. I don't think Rangers fans have an issue with this because Rangers games are on FSSW. That channel is available on some of the streaming services -- like Vue. But, people in Houston need to use a workaround to get the Astros. ATTSW is not on the streaming services as of now. So, if you don't have a friend's login to use their app, you'll have to do the workaround.

First, I suggest subscribing to a SMART DNS service. It will cost you $5/mo. I use overplay.net. The service hides your location, so you can have privacy online. You could do the same with a VPN and you can find deals for the VPN by signing up for a year. I tested both and Smart DNS does not buffer for me the way VPN does.

As for Overplay, it lets you set your location for different services. You can setup in the US for Netflix and Amazon, and the UK for MLB to avoid the blackout.

Next, download the MLB.tv app. You can buy the season pass for the Astros for a one-time fee of $89 at the beginning of the season. I bought the month-to-month one first to see if it would work -- and it did. I later switched to the full season. I've watched the Astros all season at my home in Houston with the app.

I watch Mlb.tv on fire stick.. but have had to bypass my beloved astros.

With your workaround, I am guessing you have to watch on a computer or laptop?

I don't know why, but I thought of Dickie Thon shortly after the victory. He was one of my favorite players.

No. I watch on Roku. The workaround does not work on Fire Stick. Android-based streaming devices like Fire Stick and Chromecast rely on location with the devices, so the workaround doesn't work with them. It also won't work on ipad. It does work with Apple TV.

I was at the game he got hit. My friend said it broke his helmet, I said I think it hit his bat it sounded like wood. We both instantly realized that was his face.

In 7 months it made 1700 pages and 59000+ posts. Thats not bad.
It was just shy of 900 pages at the end of the regular season. Almost doubled with the Playoff and ongoing World Series Celebration.

Remember when the Indians won 20-something games in a row and everyone was creaming themselves over how good the Tribe was, and then they got bounced in the first round by the Yankees , and the Astros won the World Series?

when looking back at the Indians and their winning streak, great August/September, etc..,

it was definitely fueled by a truckload of games vs. the awful Tigers and horrendous White Sox

One week ago I cried like a baby for the first time in years. I still have a hard time processing everything that happened during that stretch of 18 games.

Some nuggets.

We beat the third best team in the AL like a rented mule, including ***** slapping the presumptive AL Cy Young winner twice. We did it by abusing their closer who everyone said as one of the best. We beat them so bad they fired their manager.

We beat the hottest team in the AL, and yes the Yankees were hot they just took three straight elimination games from Cleveland. We took their best punch in NY city, came home and beat them like a rented mule in two straight eliminations games. We made their strength of a bullpen say Matay. We beat them so bad they fired their manager.

We beat the best team in the majors, taking two of four in their house. We took their strength of a bullpen and beat it like a rented mule. Man we were hard on bullpens. We destroyed some damn good bullpens. We beat the presumptive NL Cy Young winner, knocking him out by coming back from not one but two three run leads in the span of two innings. We beat their super closer multiple times. We won that Championship with our best two pitchers not winning a single game.

We are World Series Champions.

And we have Kate. Never forget we have Kate.

What a solid summary.

So tell us mathguy, what would been the odds that the Astros would overcome a four run deficit vs. Kershaw and then win in extra innings by scoring on Jansen. I'm thinking it had to be way less than 1%. But when it came down to it, this team got it done.

This. Plus, Smitty was the one to post it, so I didn't think it was out of the realm of possibilities.
