Yeah, I said last page or so that I didn't love the sequencing of when Giles came in, but he's still got to do better than he did.

Anyway, it's officially after noon, time to focus on today.

Two things I've taken note of while watching these games...

Does it seem like Yankee Stadium isn't as full as expected? Seems like I see a lot of empty seats in the lower levels and it doesn't really get loud until after something good happens. MMP gets crazy loud during ABs but Yankee stadium not so much.

Not even gonna lie...The flashing stadium lights after a HR are pretty sweet. It looks intimidating as hell to have those things going off while your standing there waiting for someone to run the bases. I actually really like it.

My wife is in New York for a conference. I bought her a ticket for the game yesterday and was shocked at the price. Probably equivalent of our club seats just passed third base, but I don't think they were a club section, for $110. She said the stadium wasn't nearly as full as expected. Also said it wasn't loud at all, until they took the lead at least.

It's gonna be ugly for the Yanks tonight...11-3 Stros win. You heard it here first.
I think we get to double-digits tonight, too. Let's go team.

Yesterday, I said the 'stros would "rain fire" on the yanks. Well, today we'll add some "brimstone" to the equation.
Bring it home, boys, up 3-2!

I was there last night. It was pretty full... Maybe not right at 5 but by 6 and definitely at the end of the game.

Playoff games at Yankee Stadium are like nothing else. Not sure what your wife was smoking, but that place got crazy loud and rowdy during their 7th inning rally and nobody sat down during gameplay after the 6th inning or so.

How loud that place gets for a baseball game is pretty nuts.

Beltran's whopping .111 BA this LCS is better than each of Springer, Reddick, Marwin, and McCann.

Eh, I talked to her in the 2nd or 3rd inning and she said it wasn't loud at all. She did text me back when they started rallying to say "it's loud now." She had a blast and said it was great, but similar to what Ag07 posted, she said they got really loud when they did something, but other than that MMP was louder, I've never been for a playoff game, actually never been to the new stadium so wouldn't know.

As far as the capacity, just going off what she said and what I saw on TV. Also, when looking for tickets for her I actually went to the Yankee's website and they had basically a half section completely empty and available, so I don't think it was a sell out. I'm sure they aren't as excited as us for an ALCS, they reserve that for the WS, but I was still shocked that 1) the Yankees still had seats and 2) I got her dang good seats for under $125, those sameish seats at MMP were $250+ for games 1 and 2. It did probably help I was looking for a single, though.

Live overhead view right before 1st pitch showed alot of empty seats. But, as the announcers pointed out, people were getting off work and headed to the stadium at 5:00....

Also, in defense of that, she said the security lines were crazy long and it took her awhile to get in.

This is where sabremetrics goes wrong. Should have let lance keep going.
Judge had just clobbered Lance for a 5 million foot home run.

If Lance then would have given up hits/walks to Sanchez and Gregorius then everyone would be roasting Hinch for not taking him out sooner. At 81 pitches, he was approaching the upper limit of what he's thrown since he came back from injury.

I don't get all the anger at the decision making last night, it's what we've done all season, and it usually works. It just didn't work this time.

That's baseball.

Playoffs isn't normal baseball though. You have to give him at least one more batter with a 3 run lead. Devo hasn't been himself for quite a while.
I understand your sentiment Nuke, my hindsight says the same thing. For the most part, the people on this thread were in agreement that Lance goes out for the 7th inning on a short leash, if anyone gets to 2nd base then he gets the hook. In the moment, we all (mostly) thought that was the right move based on his performance.

After the fact, I think Lance earned more leash, as he didn't miss by much on Judge's homer. But at the time, with current info - I agree with the decision to yank him.

I'd feel better leaving Lance in after a solo home run than I would a leadoff double. Solo shots rarely start a rally. It's one run and you get to reset with no one on base.

I understand pulling him. Lance has been hitting a wall and you want to get him out before there's too much trouble. The fact that our pen hasn't been pitching well, however, would have led me to leave him in.

And even if Lance manages to get out of the 7th inning, he was never going to be pitching in the 8th or 9th inning anyway, so bullpen would have likely blown it then.

At the end of the day, if you are going to win the World Series in today's world, you need significant contributions from at least 3 (if not 4 or 5) bullpen guys in tough/critical situations. At this point, only Giles has really provided any significant and meaningful contributions out of the bullpen in medium to high leverage situations, so if other guys do not step up, we will not win it all no matter what Hinch does. It still comes down to execution by the guys who you rode the entire season to get to this point.

Lance is young. He has a lot more Astros ball ready to play. Don't leave him out there and let the negative stuff happen when he's had such a positive outing.

They went through the heart of our bullpen. If Devo, Musgrove, and Giles can't protect leads, then we aren't meant to win this year, period.
