Alot of people (including myself) thought the plan going in was to make game 4 a McCullers/Peacock show. No idea why Peacock wasn't brought in if Hinch was dead set on pulling LMJ. It will be interesting to see who comes out of the BP today if Keuchel can't go the distance. I'm assuming Peacock.
You use Peacock then you burn your long reliever and potential game 7 starter. How often do you bring in a guy to throw the final 3 innings of a game? We got a deep enough start from out starter. You have a formula where you use your 7th, 8th, and 9th inning guys (not always in that order based on the line up). It seems fairly cut and dry.

Now if Lance can only get you 3 or 4 innings then Peacock is your guy. We might need Peacock tonight to pitch several if Dallas struggles. We put extreme expectations of Dallas & Justin, but it is not out of the realm of possibilities that they have a bad night.
I would have "burned my potential 7th game starter" to put my best option in to win game 4. It is what it is at this point. Just hope Keuchel can do the job today.

I'm just about done with the Peacock debate. We went with the formula that won us 101 games this year. It sucks when that doesn't work, but, it's worked way more often that it hasn't. If Peacock hadn't worked, we'd just be having a different conversation about who was or wasn't brought in.

All I know is I really want to score some freakin runs!!

Exactly

Devo was the best option facing DiDi the lefty.

All year we've been bltching about Devo not getting the lefties given his numbers against them. We all said 'No need for a lefty specialist when Devo can get them out' and 'Why pull Devo when a lefty comes up when he has such good numbers against them'.

Well Hinch gave him to Devo and he blew it. Yet now the blame is on Hinch? Blame Devo for throwing DiDi the thigh high heater over the plate for a fckin triple.

Yes. I was referring to who they were scored off of and not who they were charged to.

My point was the strength of their BP is where we've done our (albeit very little) damage.

Which is completely opposite of how I saw this series shaking out.

Their BP is striking out 2 in an inning and stuff like that often. Yes... They've given up some inherited runners and some earned runs... But they've dominated in some other ways that make it difficult for an offense constructed like ours to get going.

We are going to have to get to their starters and make them work harder for outs.

Agree with getting to their starters. I'd like to make Tanaka's night end early I really want to see a run or two in the first inning.

I'm actually hoping for a first inning homerun today. I think that would take a lot of pressure off the guys today.

They've hit a lot of balls hard this series and some even pretty darn far. To see one actually go out to start the game just might get their minds right.

That would require George and Reddick to get it going. If they are able to string together a few hits today, I like our chances

But was it though? I think it is easily debatable that you late inning, high leverage relievers give you the best shot. They've done it all year and already done it in the postseason.

Springer was seeing the ball much better at the end of yesterday's game (final 2 ABs). His swing was still a little long, but it was encouraging to see.

Oh, I agree it's easily debatable. Like I said, my mind set was to go with LMJ and when he was "done", then go with Peacock until the end if you can. Either way, we are where we are at this point. Just hope our bats makes all this a moot point....

unfortunately we have a game full of splitters and sliders with Tanaka today. When he throws a fastball you better not take it if its in the zone. You also better have a game plan of going opo all day until he adjusts. Otherwise it will be another day of watching 6-3 ground outs.

Supposed to be about 10 degrees warmer today than yesterday in NYC, maybe that will help the guys loosen up a little bit early on.

It is going to be a glorious day boys, the ball is going to bounce our way all afternoon.

and if Tanaka keeps pitching us outside, just hit a come backer at his left nut again - that seemed to get his attention in game 1.

Hinch basically just confirmed on the radio that they put in devenski because they liked that "slot" of the lineup for him.

This is where sabremetrics goes wrong. Should have let lance keep going.

Judge had just clobbered Lance for a 5 million foot home run.

If Lance then would have given up hits/walks to Sanchez and Gregorius then everyone would be roasting Hinch for not taking him out sooner. At 81 pitches, he was approaching the upper limit of what he's thrown since he came back from injury.

I don't get all the anger at the decision making last night, it's what we've done all season, and it usually works. It just didn't work this time.

That's baseball.

Playoffs isn't normal baseball though. You have to give him at least one more batter with a 3 run lead. Devo hasn't been himself for quite a while.

Does one more, two more, or even the next inning all of a sudden make Devo himself?

That's kinda my point in this whole thing. Being ineffective is being ineffective whether it's in the 7th, 8th, 9th whatever.

If Devo can't get it done one or two more batters doesn't change that. At least I don't think it does.

Bottom line is the BP just needed to execute and we win that game.

Even if Lance gets out of that inning, Giles was a disaster in the 8th anyway.

There's no way to manage yourself out of a situation where your normally reliable closer implodes.

Bullpen didn't get it done, if we're in that situation tonight then we'll probably go to Peacock and we'll see if he can get it done.

Any time you bring in a closer in a non-save situation with runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, you're setting him up to fail.

There aren't a whole lot of relievers that could get out of that kind of jam.

Giles didn't pitch well yesterday, but the Yankees have seen a lot of him this series and going to him was a desperate move by Hinch.
