Crazy to think with this team that McCullers pitched a 2 hit 1 run 7 innings and won't get a W

I wanted to see Martes too but I'm glad Hinch didn't dick around. Sent Devo out to take us home with a W

Devo closes it out with 8 pitches!

Given the injuries/late Dallas scratch and our struggles with the Royals, can't complain overall with a road split. Especially with 8-2 overall road trip.

No doubt. Before the road trip I would have been happy with 7-3. Had some healthy adversity, built some character, and now we can come back home and go back to beating the AL West into the dirt.

Exactly. Really tough loss with a bullpen blowup then a keuchel scratch. Today was a huge emotional win and McCullers should be pumped tonight.

all right, the long road trip is over. Time to get back to MMP and feast on the AL West again

I'm juice box bound tonight.

It's Star Wars night, and I am not a Star Wars guy.

Me tonight trying to watch baseball with light sabers waving all over the place:

Will be interesting over the next few weeks to see how the team picks each other up with this pitching dance we're doing.

The draft is Monday.

I expect trade talks/rumors to really ramp up after that. My guess is that we get something done before July.

Before the end of July. Most big deals won't get done until we're mid to late July.

I could see Lunhow moving on someone a month early. He is a bit unconventional that way..

He has already made comments that he thinks they made a mistake by pulling the trigger on Kazmir as early as they did, which was a couple of weeks before the deadline, so hard to know how he will approach it this time. The problem with the 2 team wildcard, however, is that it takes longer for teams to be sellers.

It was good to see Devo on the mound last night after LMJ pitched his guts out. I was kind of hoping to see Giles again. The kid needs to get back on the mound to put the last outing behind him, and a low-pressure situation like last night's 9th could have fit that bill.

But, we needed the win. So, I can't really complain.

I feel like Giles has been bad in low pressure situations all year.

it really doesnt matter pressure vs no pressure for Giles. right now its strictly a home/away thing.

Home: 1.50 ERA and .100 avg
Away: 6.57 ERA and .286 avg

Unless I'm looking at something wrong or my excel kung fu is broken, possible as I haven't used it in forever:

Giles in Save Opportunities:
5 total earned runs, 16 innings, 2.8 ERA

Giles in Non Save Opportunities:
6 total earned runs, 8.1 innings, 6.5 ERA

For me, if you need someone to come in and put out a fire, your man in Devo. If you need someone to come in for a save (starting the inning) it's Giles. Hopefully Hinch starts to see where each pitcher works best, and can use them like that come playoffs.

AGree with this. Also, I think the stats on inherited runners for Giles would further this point...

there really should be a standard stat for relievers like an adjusted ERA

my proposal: all calculations identical to era, except each inherited runner that scores gets included this way - runner on 3rd when the reliever comes in who scores counts as 1/4 of a run. runner on 2B who scores counts as 1/2 of a run. rubber on 1B counts for 3/4 of a run.

The biggest issue would be factoring in the outs and situations. Coming in with a man on 3rd no outs should hurt less than letting him score with 2 outs. Additionally, if it's a 1 run game with less than 2 outs hitters are more likely to sacrifice him in, versus blowouts and early in games hitter are more prone to strikeouts. Lots of different factors that effect the difficulty of letting inherited runners score.

I posted it Wednesday night. 7 of 12 have scored including twice where 3 inherited runners all scored.

hmm you're right, not that simple. but you could attempt to account for how many outs on the board by multiplying by 1 for 2 outs, (2/3) for 1 out, or (1/3) for 0 outs
