thats awesome. Yeah its definitely something I would never do if I had to pay for the flight. But the 400 dollar flight being free makes it really reasonable.

I will even have a few hours after the game to go for some beers and a nice meal.

So guess who just booked a round trip to Camden Yards for the Stros game on July 23rd on that Sunday. Leaving Hobby at 6am, game at 1:30, and getting back at 11pm that night.

Going by myself.

I think this is what the kids call....YOLO.

Wet blanket question...If the Astros have as great a regular season as projected and the theydon't win the World Series, is the season a failure?
The problem with post season baseball is it is not the regular season. You dont play 12 games in a row without a day off and you dont need a 5th starter or really even a 4th. So teams that have depth at pitching (Astros) that they use to their advantage all season can run into a team with a great #1 and #2, average #3 and crappy #4 and 5 guys and never see the crappy 4 and 5. See 1998, Padres, Brown, K. We had a huge edge in depth that year. And because of TV the Padres could toss Brown twice in 4 games. And that is not regular season baseball.

That is probably the biggest factor in the Braves not winning more WS. They stellar pitching depth could never really get used to their advantage.

You'll love Camden. Baltimore isn't the coolest place but go check out the harbor in Annapolis.

Interesting

Quote:

The Astros have agreed to sign 20-year-old Cuban righty Elian Rodriguez for $2MM, Baseball America's Ben Badler reports. The move will be subject to MLB's rules regarding international bonus spending and will be part of the pool period that ends June 15, and the Astros will have to pay an 100% tax on the signing, bringing the total cost to $4MM.

There isn't much English-language information about Rodriguez that's widely available, but Badler reports he is 6'4 and 205 pounds, and has added velocity since leaving Cuba and can now touch 97 MPH. Rodriguez also throws a slider and curve, along with a changeup that Badler says he doesn't use much yet.

Edited because it turns out that he is NOT a lefty.

Weird hypothetical that I wonder what you guys think...

It's pretty out there.

Would yal be in favor of a shorter regular season if it meant that the playoff rounds were all extended by 2 games... best 5 out of 9? It would force teams to throw their #4/5 pitchers and with 40 man rosters, the depth and talent would usually win out more often. Something that has crossed my mind although I can clearly see the argument that would get boring because the series would be too long.

They should just do playoffs like regular season. No days off, no travel days. Why should a team that doesn't have depth suddenly get an advantage over one that does?

How do y'all feel about Josh Ennis? I typically avoid his show in the afternoon and listen to 610 but 610 has become a one trick pony with their nonstop Texans content which I'm ok with at times but with what's going on with the Astros I feel like they should flood the radio with Astros talk. Spent 45 minutes running around town yesterday and 610 talked about the patriots, the finals, the firing of Ohio state, and Texans draft picks, zero Astros talk.

I'd love the season to be around 140-150 games 162 is way too many.

Camden is awesome, and there are good parts of Baltimore too. Just stay in fells point, fed hill, or canton.

158 games (lose 4 total games)

12 games per division opponent = 48 games
6 games per league opponent = 60 games

Rotate each year over three years:

6 games per cross league division A = 30 games
4 games per cross league division B = 20 games
0 games per cross league division C = 0 games

Though I would not be against ending the season at the end of August and starting playoffs in early September. Not sure how many total games that would constitute.

Are the Astros going to win the 2017 World Series?

Stumbled across this article from 2014. It was written in response to the SI cover. The comments section is pretty golden.

Pretty cool look at Altuve vs Biggio at this point in their careers... this was just on the Root pregame show:

I understand the argument for 9 games and forcing 4s and 5s to pitch but I guess I don't really care to see whoever's version of Joe Musgrove or some minor leaguer because someone got injured at some point come in and get beat up for 4 or 5 innings and see the bullpen get blown through.

You're rewarded for getting there with depth but let the better players go out and play for the championship.

Agreed. 100%.

The better argument is make them more compact but they'll never do that thanks to TV dollars.

Those numbers for Biggio are his pre-steroid numbers, I will wait for the 6500 AB numbers.
