It won't.

Once the playoffs start all teams are back to equal.

I do think our position plays well into Lunhow gaining some leverage. It's not like we're desperate for a starter and teams can no longer hold that over our head.

Yep, everyone feels like they have a chance. Even the Rangers fans two weeks ago were discussing who they could add to the bullpen.

That being said, Gerrit Cole would be my number one target - just concerned about the numbers so far this year. Giving up A LOT of home runs. Like Fiers numbers (8 HR in his last thee starts)and even against teams that aren't exactly power lineups (ATL and NYM). Hopefully it's just a bad stretch.

Issue is we are going to be competing with at least the Yankees for him. Price will be high.

Archer is also pitching really well and would be a dynamite #3. But the Rays are still in in and hovering around .500. Raising the price on him even further.

It would be nice to get a lefty bullpen arm, as well. Brad Hand for the Padres has been pretty good this season and is apparently on the trade block.

Forgot he was a lefty. Damn, I love this team.

I think he will be all star caliber if he can learn to consistently hit his spots.

I'm halfway kidding. I'm not sure he's the answer for a LHP out of the pen but damn he's looked really good so far.

And if anyone heard Hinch after the game when asked about Guduan and Hoyt in the high leverage situations his answer was awesome and very promising.

"We need to test these guys. These guys are up here to do a job and we need to find out what they can handle."

A quick look at fangraphs.

He's throwing the FB less and more breaking stuff, especially the changeup.

His velocity is up across the board, so no issue there.

His hard contact and fly balls are up so that explains the home runs. He's given up more home runs this year than he has in any previous season.

I think it is fair to have some concern, but maybe it also drives the price down a little.

With that said, I'd still love to add Hand, Watson or another TBD lefty to the mix (assuming the price is right).

I'm still of the opinion that Ivan Nova needs to be an Astro. Looking at some of the numbers he's performed just as well if not better than Cole so far this year.

I'd go for a Nova/Watson deal over just a Gerrit Cole deal.

I have no current inside knowledge but I speculate Watson might be one of our main targets if we added a bullpen arm.

He addresses multiple needs and is in the NL so the pirates wouldn't worry as much to ship him.

He is a closer (if anything ever happened to Giles) and a lefty which we are short handed on and fills two big needs. I don't even consider Sipp an option at this point imo so you basically have the youngster and that's it.

Just looked at the league level standings . We have an 8 game lead on the entire freaking AL. ESPN is pushing the Yankees hard because, well, they are the Yankees. And of course we will get three days of Yankees and BoSox articles. They are actually pushing Judge for AL MVP already. But they are 8 games back. Who else gets a lot of page space? The Nats. The best team in the NL. They sit 5 games back. The second best team in MLB is 5 games back of the best. Crazy.

True, but check out this gem of a stat I read from ESPN today:

Quote:

Astros win streak hits 11. That's the longest in the majors this season and also 11 in a row on the road. Yulieski Gurriel broke open a 4-3 lead against the Kansas City Royals with a three-run homer off Kelvin Herrera in the ninth. Good move by Ned Yost to bring in his closer to keep the game close -- it just didn't work.

Get this stat: Gurriel was hitting eighth; No. 7 hitter Brian McCann also homered. Houston's 7-8-9 hitters are now batting .285 and slugging .502 -- that's better than the MLB average for the 3-4-5 spots (.265/.459). That's certainly one way to go 42-16 through 58 games.

A lot of Astros fellating.

including Keith Law answering the question of us being a 100 win team with the answer "absolutely".

Yes and no.

The playoffs are chaos. When baseball is meant to win the most games out of 162 then you boil it down to 3-7 game sample sizes... anything can happen.

Any time you set the record for most wins in a season, it isn't a failure. It would be disappointing to not win it all after that.

If we go into win-now mode, trade our farm away at the deadline, and don't win it all, it's certainly a failure imo

Not a failure. A disappointment sure, but you win the pennant and it's a successful year. There is more than one successful team each year.

Get yourself home field throughout the postseason and you've done your regular season job better than anyone else. Then, need to capitalize on it.

Add a solid #2 as your #3 and avoid injury, then we will have just as good a shot as anyone. Hope to get a few bounces along the way.

ask me after we trade for a starter.

I want to know what kind of contract he has and what kind of deal we got him for.

Will be easier to answer the question after knowing that.

You understand that our farm is deep enough that we can't "trade it away" at the deadline, right? Adding a SP under team control for multiple years isn't selling out.

Doubt Correa will catch Lindor, but he's passed him after Lindor's hit start.

Springer needs to make the team.

The manager needs to add Marwin since he's not on the ballot.

No.

I don't ever expect a team to win a title. That's outrageous seeing as only 1 team can do that. Many people/fans underestimate how hard it is to do.

However, I can expect that we put ourselves in a good position to legitimately compete for a title. As of now it looks like we have but we'll have to see how the rest plays out.

Like A&M being a last four in, and now hosting a Super against Davidson. Although college is a little different than the majors

So...Who's up for 12 in a row?

Quote:

The Royals have announced that they've recalled righty Jake Junis from Triple-A Omaha and optioned fellow righty Seth Maness to Omaha. Junis will start tonight against the Astros; the Royals' rotation has struggled lately with injuries to Danny Duffy and Nate Karns, and will now lean on Junis, who has a strong 2.34 ERA, 12.1 K/9 and 1.7 BB/9 in 42 1/3 innings in Omaha thus far this season. (Junis has also already made three appearances in the big leagues, striking out six but walking seven over 6 2/3 innings.)

It would be a disappointing season for sure not a failure, if they didn't win the WS. As someone mentioned above, the playoffs are chaos and anything can happen, look no further than the sweep the Indians did of the Astros a couple of weeks back, that is all it would take to derail the Astros in the postseason.

so Southwest gave me a voucher that expires at the end of the year.

My baby is due in september and I have literally no weekends to spare between other vacations and showers, etc. And I know I wont be going anywhere between his birth and the end of the year.

So guess who just booked a round trip to Camden Yards for the Stros game on July 23rd on that Sunday. Leaving Hobby at 6am, game at 1:30, and getting back at 11pm that night.

Going by myself.

I think this is what the kids call....YOLO.
