I agree its a mistake to not play Reddick tonight. That's like pulling your 3pt shooter when he hit back to back 3's. The dude is hot, go with him until he's not.

I get that Hinch is trying to spread at bats out. He mentioned he wants more consistent at bats for Gattis, so that is his thinking behind Gattis at DH and shifting Beltran to LF. However, Beltran should be the guy sitting tonight, not Reddick.

In the post game last night Hinch stated he told Reddick before the game that he was getting a day off today (made a funny quip about how he should do that more often).

Anyway, it sounds like this was the plan all along...now it could have been his poor numbers against Shoemaker or he wanted Jake to get in some AB's. I bet it was a combination of both.

FYI The guy working the Honda club door doesn't have any wristbands yet so he just let us in.

im not saying what I said is true. Just saying it could be anything. Hinch apparently already planned this. Sometimes guys just have your number. If Hinch asked him, Reddick would be honest. He wants to win and there are 162 games per year. And the other option is one of our best hitters.

That's fair. If Beltran has a big night tonight then props to Hinch for being a step ahead

It's not a huge deal but it's simply a microcosm of what hinch does. Based upon how he operates so heavily stat driven and made the decision yesterday I don't think it's a stretch to think it was made solely on his history against this righty

Against the angels 3 weeks into the season not a huge deal...when he translates those type of moves over to post season play and down the stretch trying to attain a pennant is what concerns me. I think AJ has a good baseball mind but gets himself into trouble because he uses stats as such a crutch and can't just manage withoug digging into pages of analytics. His use of Tony Sipp the last 2 years is another good example. AJ you don't need pages of data to tell you trotting out Sipp against Robinson cano because he throws left handed is a bad idea. Just manage bro and stop overthinking every little detail

My biggest issue is that the replacement is Marisnick, not that Redding is getting time off. It's worked to this point, I'm all for data based decisions rather than hunches. I doubt this happens in the post season, but if you are 5 games over .500 and 3 up in the division, we've got the luxury to mix and match.

That was the idea but was also predicated upon this lineup just mashing the baseball, which outside of a few games just isn't happening yet. This offense has still really struggled at times with lots of guys ice cold we are relying on.

And yes my issue is just as much with Marisnick getting the nod as it is redding getting the day off.

I can see that. I'm not as anti-Hinch as some. I think baseball is going to be even more data-centric as we move forward. Not that I'm liking it, I prefer it wouldn't happen, but I've accepted it. We ain't going back, at least with the leadership this team has now...cubs, Indians, Red Sox are the same way. Those are teams I want to be associated with, not the opposite.

In other news - Luis Robert was declared a free agent today. Astros are already over their current international spending cap, but could still sign him and not incur further penalty (except for $$$). Everything I've read about this kid is that he's a stud (now and in the future).

If Crane and Luhnow have the balls to basically pay 2x whatever he signs for (we pay his bonus + 100% penalty), I'd like to see them make a run at him

What do plate appearances that probably span over the last 8+ seasons have to do with what's happening right now? Reddick is completely locked in and swinging a red hot stick no matter who is one the mound.

This a classic hinch over thinking, micromanaging and making a move for the sake of making a move and my constant gripe with him. At some point hinch has to at least have somewhat of a feel for the game and current pulse of the team/individual players and stop solely looking at splits and stat breakdowns.

Once again. You don't know that.

Hinch and the staff looks at a hell of a lot more than a slash line to make lineup decisions. Also, what if he goes 0-5 with 4 Ks vs Shoemaker who does have a history of owning him... and that bad game plunges him into a 2 week slump. What if Reddick tweeked his hammy a little legging out the triple.

I'd say so but that carving station look tasty.
