Probably nothing but "MLB Rumor Central: Carlos Correa not interested in early multi-year deal"

http://www.espn.com/blog/mlb/rumors/post/_/id/34437/mlb-rumor-central-carlos-correa-not-interested-in-early-multi-year-deal
Saw that. Obviously low on my list of things to be concerned about (he's not a UFA until after the 2021 season) and lots of baseball to be played between now and then. Still a little sobering to think he and Altuve (after 2018) will probly demand ~$250-300mm deals and that we probably won't pay both, especially given that we'll have to pay Springer, Kuechal, LMJ and Bregman (if he is who we think he is) over the next 5-7 years.

Was hoping maybe we could void Correa's arbitration years and sign him to a 10 year, $150mm-ish deal after this year or next year, but oh well.

Also... a reminder that Nori Aoki was a freaking WAIVER CLAIM.

I love that guy. He's exactly what this Astros lineup has been needing.

He's not what I consider an every day player and I think that's why no one wanted him. He's far better against righties than lefties, doesn't hit for power, and doesn't steal bases.

That being said, I agree that he's what this lineup needed.

I don't understand the thinking of having devo limited to 100-120 innings as a reliever but letting fiers hold a rotation spot that could eat 150-175 innings. Don't we want our better pitchers holding down more innings?

Not if those 100-120 are higher-leverage innings than the ones Fiers throws on average.

Definitely a flaw in the idea of "rebuilding for the future". once the future is here, you cant afford to keep what you built.

Out of Correa, Bregman, Springer & Altuve, I sure hope we sign at least 3/4 and keep them here long term. Feel like Houston needs a a biggio/bagwell kind of thing again.

I think Correa is a future Yankee. I think Altuve and Bregman and Keuchel stick here for most of their careers. Don't know about Springer or LMJ. It may be hard to keep springer from goin to Boston.

My 2 favorite players. I want them to spend their career as Astros. Altuve and Keuchel too.

Bagwell was a life long Red Sox fan and never went back. Some players come here and just fall in love with Houston i.e Biggio, Bagwell, Andre Johnson, JJ Watt etc.

Hopefully some of these players do the same

Can we just discuss the season without talking about who is leaving us for money in a few years?

start a different thread for that.

I think the Devo/Fiers delimma has a lot to do with Devo pitching more than once every 5 days. He's valuable enough that you don't want him being restricted to only pitching in his starts. I also think the question marks on our rotation lend it be valuable to have a stud long reliever.

Agreed, it makes me sad to think of the possible players leaving in 4 years. But that's 4 years away. Let's save it for then. Baseball talk this season!

no game tonight bub. What else are we supposed to talk about?

Maybe we can discuss how the ranger's fans are gonna start a "dick out for rangers" hashtag (DOFR) in Honor of Rat Face Odors Rub N Tug shenanigans?

im gonna post #DOFR every time they win on their thread

https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/04/13/lance-mccullers-houston-astros

Quote:

McCullers could realistically compete for a Cy Young Award this season. McCullers owes much of his early success this season, as well as his unbounded potential, to his knuckle-curve.

The Astros' ace has thrown the big, sweeping pitch for more than half of his pitches this season, challenging hitters to force him in another direction. They have been woefully unsuccessful. Of McCullers's 17 strikeouts, 11 came with a curveball on strike three. What's more, all but one of those were of the swinging variety. All told, McCullers's knuckle-curve has a whiff rate of 23.7% through his first two starts. Given that he enjoyed a 15.8% whiff rate with the pitch in 2015, and a 21.8% whiff rate last year, we can say two things with a good degree of confidence. First, he can maintain this rate all season. Second, and most scary for opposing, hitters, the pitch could be getting better.

Yep. To me this highlights the importance of hanging on to guys like Martes and Tucker and not being too quick to sell them for pitching help (yet anyway).

Over the next few years, guys like McCann, Reddick, Beltran and Morton will move on and it would be huge to replace those guys with cheap organic talent because we won't have much $$ leftover after paying our young core.

Since it's an off day..

If you can't hang on to Springer (or you decide that's the avenue to save money for Altuve and Correa), you at least have Kyle Tucker reaching the bigs around the same time.

If Bregman becomes the star we think he can, losing Correa could potentially not be the end of the world if you could replace him with a big time FA 3B, shifting Bregman to SS.

Losing Altuve should never be an option.. period.

This is why you continue to absolutely draft with the highest priority and scout the piss out of the lower levels so that you can land the Chris Devenskis and Frances Martes's of the world.

Personal opinions here. Correa will go to the highest bidder. Springer will go to the Red Sox. We'll get Bregman, Altuve, and LMJ to sign some type of extension. Correa has always wanted to the a huge star. I think the best thing to get Correa to re-sign here early would be to win a World Series or two to where he feels the legacy thing with the Astros.

Maybe Beltran can explain to him that chasing stardom and money isn't always the best option.

Why are you ass holes ignoring the McCullers article? He's got the best pitch in baseball, dammit. Be happy.

I think we could easily keep all 4 of Altuve, Springer, Bregman and Correa. There are obviously a lot of factors involved, but revenue is climbing and we will likely be able to afford it. The best thing we can hope for is for those guys to gel and get some intangible factors on our side.

By the time Correa is a FA, we will know exactly what he is and what he can do. If we get the feel he's not resigning year and is going to take the big contract from the Dodgers, Cubs, yanks, etc... we can trade him and get a good return.

Thinking about going on Wednesday night to see Keuchel vs. Angels. I drive a Honda so will make my way to the club level. Am I mistaken in thinking there is also a special Honda lot for parking? If there is, anyone know price/location of the lot?
