The lineup seems very flawed. I love Springer but he is not really a table setter on base guy. He needs to be hitting lower where he can drive in some runs. And there are too many of the exact same station to station kinda old to very old guys batting in the 5-9 spots.

The one consistent thing over the last three years is how much our offense underperforms and fails to sequence hits together. That's an approach thing, and this team is no different. It's boom or bust.

Going to have a rough season if the bats don't heat up. 3 runs per game is not going to cut it. Still early in the season, but the lack of hitting is disconcerting through almost 8 full games given the talent level of the lineups we are rolling out.

There is zero situational hitting acumen. Inning after inning it is like watching a slow pitch softball game but with little to show for it. I guess the metrics guys say to wait around for home runs and extra base hits and I suppose the numbers support them. But it just seems like there are times to get a straight number instead of holding out hope for a crooked number and getting several consecutive innings of NOTHING. Or move runners along, not by bunting but by having the barrel control to hit behind guys or put the ball in play with 2 strikes. Sometimes those oppo hits find grass. I realize that MLB guys may get incentives for certain numbers but dang...

first called strike was the same height. with 2 strikes correa had no business watching that pitch
Certainly not letting current struggles dictate overall trend.. but it's the exact same warning signs from last year.. pitching has just been mostly good enough that were .500 ball club instead of down. It seems like it doesn't matter who we add we're always going to struggle the same way.
The good news is that it is still early on the West Coast. The boys can go out and find some slump busters.

We are 4-4. If the Texans were tied in the 3rd quarter of game 1 would you be freaked out about the season?

Excellent. I'm not worried about the offense. Hell if the entire team were to all hit within 10% of the average of their last 2 years they would still be fine. I will say that Beltran looks old, slow, and out of shape.
That said, wasting some of these starts by our pitching staff really grinds my gears.

That's a pretty good analogy.
But I, along with many others, would still be on edge and waspish if the Texans' offense liked like complete crap (and eerily like last season's offense) up through 3Q of game 1, after having made a lot of offseason $$$ investments to improve the offense.....
Certainly not season defining, but seeing the exact same boom or bust crap as last year through the first 8 games is troubling.
