Can't tell me the trade deadline nothingness didn't sap the energy from this team

I'm convinced that Reed and White are prototypical AAAA players.

I'd say the Rays bullpen did a pretty good job, with an assist to tonight's home plate ump.

Tough stretch, that's for sure.

1-24 from the 4-9 hitters. Hard to extend innings with that production.

this series badly exposed Hinch.

the Astros won the blowout game, but the Rays won the 3 close games that required the chess moves

Yes. I believe you are right. Solid minor league hitters. I am pulling for Reed because I saw him play in person a few times in college and he could rake to all fields. It seems like the Astros have changed his swing or approach, or maybe he is just eating too much.

It does stink that Reed and White were supposed pretty solid for us. Can't say they won't work out but isn't looking promising.

I believe their current roles are their ceiling. They'll be in the big leagues here and again but it will only be to fill in for people.

Hinch brought in Liriano to face lefties and he struggled. We had errors that cost us precious outs in the last 2 games. The lineup is not up to full strength currently.

It's disconcerting to lose to the caliber of pitchers that we did on Wednesday and tonight, but I fail to see validity of blaming this on Hinch.

Dont you know. When we win its all because of the players but when we lose its Hinch's fault.

One game under 500 since the all star break.

Injuries and below average pitching. In addition, with the exception of Altuve the rest of the lineup is just slumping. It happens.

Huge lead so it doesn't matter much. Astros make the playoffs with no problem.

Pitching is a real question mark in any playoff series, however. Hard to feel good about Astro pitching as it now stands in any short playoff series. Against the superior pitching to be faced in a playoff series you just can't count on winning many playoff games 9-8.

and this is why you freaking trade prospects to fill needs in your current roster
not trading for pitching was a fail of epic proportions

Three reasons why I'm not putting much stock into this rough patch

The lineup looks nothing like what our playoff lineup will look like
The starting rotation looks nothing like what our playoff starting rotation will look like
The BP looks nothing like what our playoff BP will look like

It's kinda of like overreacting to Spring Training results in that the team we're trotting out right now doesn't look much like the team we'll be trotting out come October.

What does Reed and White having to play have to do with trading for pitching? Also Reed and White aren't exactly hot commodities

I think he's saying they're examples of prospects not panning out and it's why teams tend to trade guys when their value is high.

He's just making absolutely sure that the horse is completely dead.

Teams have slumps, and this would barely count as one, really. My annoyance with baseball right now is that suddenly you cant talk about it anymore because its all a bunch of ****ing defeatist whining and complaining. Its one thing to vent about random losses with people, quite another to keep being dragged into the same old ****ing roster conversations as if the players on the team were clearly suddenly not good anymore after the trade deadline.

Starting pitching concerns me more than the bullpen does. Including last night, there have only been 16 quality starts in the last 50 games.

Regarding starts in October, there's no guarantee keuchel and mccullers are going to round back in form in time. If put my money on LMJ looking good, but not keuchel. I think that pinched nerve is gonna bother home for a few more months still, at least.

I'd love to get ahold of one of these caps.

They have a few in one of the team shops at MMP, but they aren't online anywhere

I checked on this last night. They had plenty at the Union Station team shop, but they are all flat bill snapbacks. $30.

Would love to have one, but flat bills don't work with my head. Need them to come out with a '47 franchise style version.

I bet they go 7-2 at the least in their next 9 games. Watch out. Weekend series and Bagwell tribute will draw great crowds and energy this weekend. Then 3 at the deflated CWS. Then three against the poors in poortown. They can make people forget about the last 19 games in those 9 right there.

Yep. And had we traded Reed off of his phenomenal 2015 season in the minors and watched him blossom elsewhere, the same guys would be on here questioning that decision.

If you haven't, check out the season Domingo Santana is having for Milwaukee. And then check out the season Brett Phillips put up in AAA for them this year before being called up. And while Josh Hader likely won't maintain his 0.9 ERA that he has now, he would have been a nice lefty to add to our pen.

Top prospects are top prospects for a reason. Just because a couple don't pan out doesn't mean you should just start shipping them all out via trade.

I think I saw the horse twitch.

None of this right now matters. What matters is October.
If Keuchel and Lance are hurt / bad right now, it sucks, but it's not the end of the season.
If they're hurt / bad in October then it is definitely the end of the season.
Same for the rest of the guys.

It's very frustrating right now since we just did nothing at the deadline, 4 out of our 5 all stars are either hurt or playing like ass, and the rest of the guys can't seem to be dependable in the clutch in the last few weeks.

It will get better.

And if it doesn't, you can tell me I told you so if it will make you feel better.
