Sounds like Lariano is definitely happening. I'd imagine there will be other trades in addition to this

Not a splash move, but there goes any concerns about Sipp getting innings in the postseason. If Liriano is the guy to come in and get lefties out in critical moments, that's useful.

The Astros are good enough that small improvements on the margins could be enough. When you're not fighting for a playoff spot, a pitchers value comes down to a few outings in the playoffs and if they wake up and don't feel good one single day, the value of the trade to you just plummets.
Lariano is a bargain bin purchase where you hope the movie has just enough charm at the right moments to still be worth your $3.

More likely someone like Teoscar or a lottery ticket at lower levels.
Liriano has solid numbers against lefties this year. He could give you the same results as a more expensive option at a fraction of the cost. I like that we are thinking outside the box here, and obviously this doesn't mean we aren't making a bigger deal in addition.

My guess would be Kemp or Preston Tucker to free up 40 man spots or just some gamble PTBNL from the lower minors. Its becoming clear that neither Kemp nor Tucker is ever going to play here in any real sense. Hernandez I would guess has more value to the org in other deals or as a future depth type.
I'm really ok with this move. Liriano isn't going to light it up, but he's been a starter for years. He also is a lefthander with experience. He doesn't suck like Sipp. He could be an innings-eater down the stretch to bridge us to the postseason. He will likely perform like ok-Fiers or Morton. I think he is just an insurance policy.
Maybe we sent them Daz Cameron.
It's going to be a Sam's size crate of big league chew, a bag of baseballs, and an autographed picture from Jeff Bagwell for Liriano, guys.
