Oakland has one of the better home records in the league. They've won 17 more home games than road games - most in the majors. Padres are second on that list with 16. That's interesting to me. While it's normal for teams to have a better home record than road, these are bad teams and are clearly overperforming at home. The only reasoning I can think of is that these are simply "meh" atmospheres, and it's just tough for road players to "get up" to play a bad team in front of small crowds and poor environments. Not that it's an excuse, but I think it's a factor for sure.
I've been to Petco Park. I don't think there is anything related between the Padres and Athletics' home field.
Petco is a REALLY nice place to catch a game. I sat out in LF on a business trip and had a great time. I was by myself and it was pretty full. You can't beat San Diego weather. The fans were great and very active.
I checked their attendance, because the stadium was well attended, when I was there. This year they are 20th in Attendance. Last year they were 15th. It is downtown and very accessible. I took a cab (because I was running late and I'm lazy).
Oakland, though... is a ****hole. Literally. They have had sewage backup repeatedly in the dugout (not sure if home\visitor\both), but it speaks to just how bad that stadium is. Some believe the new CBA included
language for Oakland.

Clubs shall ensure that home and visiting clubhouses are fully stocked with grooming items (e.g. soaps, shaving, hair products, deodorant, etc.), toiletries (e.g. toilet paper, hand wipes, wet wipes), towels and washcloths (replaced annually), and a safe or lockbox for valuables.
I don't know why MLB hasn't taken the team away from the owners. I can't imagine ever wanting to play for them, if I had ever been a visiting player. One of the things Mark Cuban did when he took ownership of the Mavs was to replace all of the towels. Even the visitors. His explanation was, that when players come in and see how we treat them as visitors. They will think about what we do for our own players. I not sure if that mentality has translated, but it was interesting.
Also, Tampa is a pretty terriible place to play, as well. They are 39-39, at home.
