If Darvish walks then by all accounts 2018 would have to be a total rebuild year.
A bit over exaggeration, IMO. The core of this team will be intact for 2018.
Hamels, Perez, AJG, Martinez
Gallo, Odor, Andrus, Beltre, Profar
Choo, Mazara, DeShields,
Bush, Claudio, Leclerc, Kela,
JeffressThat's 17 of the 25.
After 2017, we stand to lose:IF: Lucroy (C-$5M), Napoli ($6M, '18 Option)
SP: Darvish ($11M), Cashner ($10M), Ross ($6M) <- $27M in SP.
OF: Gomez (OF-$11.5M)
Nobody here likes Lucroy, so just give the job to Chirinos and Nicholas (28).
Napoli is a bust. Replace him with Ronald Guzman (.315, 5HR in AAA-22yr) and Gallo
We'll need an OF, which could be Profar.
SP: We'll likely sign at least one Top tier SP to an overpriced 4 yr deal which everyone will complain about. We'll sign a 1 yr deal to someone who was either DL or ISO a "comeback year." Hamels, <Insert SP>, Perez, AJG, DL-Recovery.
After 2018, we stand to lose:IF: Beltre (3B-$18M)
RP: Diekman: (Arb3)
SP: AJG (Arb3)
Beltre will likely be a year-by-year deal. Depending on his health and where he is with stats... he'll likely retire a Ranger.
AJG is replaced internally with YoMen, or other AA SP.
