It's the managers job to make and put the lineup and pitchers and other guys in positions to succeed and win games...and it's the manager's job to work with guys to make adjustments...

He's failing at both. The lineup and pitching decisions make you scratch your head on a daily basis and adjustments have been few and far between.

Before batting Odor 5th was a big question mark, remember when he decided it'd be a good idea to bat Odor 2nd for a week and a half?

Bannister is acting stubborn and consistently putting guys where he wishes they fit, rather than reflections of their play.

I hope he turns the results around one way or another. But I don't see how you can ignore his performance this season, up to this point.

We're three weeks removed from Dyson being the reason we weren't one game behind the Astros and who kept calling for him out of the pen?

Rougie has been awful and is still batting fifth with no sign of him dropping. There's a lot of issues but I wouldn't put Banny low on the list and I like the guy.

I think when you drop 50 mill on a guy you've indicated you believe he's a key piece. Banny is trying to get him to work out of it.

If you have an better suggestion for a lineup I'd be curious to see it?

Just so I'm clear then, Banny is the reason Houston is 13 games better this year?

I've been criticizing the lineup for weeks and giving my thoughts along the way. You can read all about it by flipping back through the pages.

We're a third of the way through the season. The money is sunk no matter what you do. He needs to drop farther in the order. And honestly, putting him in those spots may just be killing his confidence. He needs a lot of work on his approach at the plate. Right now, he's as bad as Hamilton used to be with swinging at crap he just flat can't hit.

He has nothing to do with how good Houston is.

I do believe he has something to do with the lead being 14 games.

Do you have a serious question to ask me?

Im sure he'll be dropped soon. Grant reported they wanted to give him some games batting behind Belts.

I really didn't have a problem with Odor's spot in the lineup early in the season when everyone was struggling. Now that Beltre is back, Odor needs to be dropped in the lineup.

Oh that was a serious question..sorry it was too elementary for you.

If they just need someone to coach 'em up better then it looks like Banny isn't the guy. Hopefully Maddon will take their call or....?

The thing is if Grant is correct, that's an example of the stubbornness of the lineup making.

We all want Odor to get going and perhaps he will, but drawing out the experiments to a 26-30 record in order to not drop a guy in the lineup, that's the frustration.

I don't think his problems have anything to do with who is hitting around him. They're about how he approaches the plate. He's seen many good pitches. He doesn't approach good pitches well.

Hope he gets out of the funk. If he does, I don't think it'll have had anything to do with batting behind Beltre.

Agreed. If anybody throws him a strike on 2-2 or less they're nuts. Put it in his eyes, outside, or in the dirt and he will swing. Period.

At no point did Grant say lineup position was Odor's sole issue re: who is in front or behind.

They were hoping it would spark things.

His approach is, and will always be, an ongoing project in addition to whatever else they try.
TXAggie2011

Okay. I don't think that's what will "spark" Odor's hitting better.

Odor's bat will come around, but at this point we've dug ourselves too deep a hole to win the division. At this point it seems like a toss-up between playing for a WC spot and selling at the deadline to restock the farm. I'm at the point where I don't care either way as long as we don't half ass it and leave ourselves in a bad spot next year.

No one says we just cut him loose, but you do need to drop him from the lineup for a few games to both get his head right and understand that he wont just play no matter what. He has to deliver

I really hate to say this, but Daniels needs to put Andrus on the market. At age 28, it's only a matter of time before his performance goes down. I'm not sure what teams would be interested, and the Rangers would have to eat a ton of his contract, but unless Daniels can chalk this season up to be like 2014, and that in 2018 the Rangers are a serious contender, than he's got to start moving what he can.

Same for Darvish. Have serious talks with Darvish about an extension, but if Darvish wants to test the market in the offseason, we'll then it's time for him to go as well.

This team just sucks.

Was just looking at Fangraphs to see what Odor's strikeout rate was once he has two strikes, because it seems like it's 90%.

It turns out that in an 0-2 count, he winds up striking out 45% of the time (doesn't necessarily have to mean the next pitch), but Gallo is at 65%, Napoli at 60%, and Rua at over 50%.

Odor's was 29% in a 3-1 count, which is among the worst in the league. Carlos Gomez was ahead of him at 33%.

"Letting him work thru it" long ago became "letting him get away with **** discipline". No repurcussions. That is not doing Odor or the team any favors.

Well they aren't sending a guy they just reupped for 50 mill and some premium horses to AAA so if the concensus is to drop him in the order don't worry...that's coming.

Interesting article on how Nolan Ryan leaving hurt the Rangers more than it helped the Astros. He was the guy that held JD in check and I certainly miss having him around

That is a scorching hot take. Yeah Nolan is some all knowing baseball god who would never make a bad deal except you know forcing Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman on the team.
