Odor has no business hitting 2nd. I have to wonder if he'd be there if he wasn't a second baseman.

He has the second lowest OBP in the lineup and when he does get on base, he relatively tends to hit home runs.

The problem is that no one in this lineup is consistently hitting right now. Elvis has been the most consistent and he is now getting ABs in the four hole.

Delino continues to impress.

They're not all the same.

To take the complimentary view of Odor, he's been on base 29 times and 6 of those were home runs and 11 total were extra base hits. You can say that its wasteful for that to be hitting 2nd.

In the last week, if you want to look at the near-term trend, he's been on 7 times and 2 of those were home runs and 3 total were extra base hits. You can say that's even more wasteful to be hitting 2nd.

Batting Odor 2 is about trying to get him to change his approach. I'm not saying it's a good or bad idea but at this point Banny is running low on optimal lineup configurations.

I agree that Odor is playing terribly right now and that I wouldn't necessarily want him batting second either.

We only have 3 players batting over .250 and one of them is the back up catcher. The 1 through 4 spots in the lineup are just impossible to fill out right now. This whole team is sucking at the plate.

I wouldn't argue against putting Choo up there. At least he is getting on base at a high clip. Odor is a big part of this team and will always be put in a spot to get significant ABs. The guy just needs to get going.

The entire team needs to get it in gear. I wouldn't want to be Bannister trying to fill out a lineup card right now.

At some point jumbling the lineup everyday trying to find something is gonna do more harm than good. May have reached that point already.

Odor hit 1st all of last May, didn't walk once all month, and I think Bannister finally caught on that Odor is an RBI guy that's wasting his power at the very top of the lineup. While most of the roster is "sucking", there's still vast differences in what these guys do and are doing.

He's an RBI guy. It's fine, not a problem, but that's what he is.

He's a "big part" of the team because he smacked 33 home runs. So make those 33 home runs a big part of the team by allowing him the opportunity to knock in other less-power oriented parts of the team.

(Or, before his age gets brought up, that's what he is at this point in his career)

I think Banny is trying to get him going like he was last year. Right or wrong it's what he's trying to accomplish with batting Odor that high.

Odor got going last year after getting moved from 1st to 5th. Had his worst month of the season in May hitting lead-off. Then probably had his 2nd best month of the season in June.

Moved from 1st to 5th on June 1st and immediately hit better.

I have no problem with doing something like moving Choo to 2nd and having Odor hit 5th. Unfortunately, I think it only marginally improves the lineup.

At the end of the day I have a hard time questioning Bannister's lineup decisions when the players are failing this badly.

Not claiming it or any single move is the key to success, but I'll just say when about 25% of games are being decided by 1-run one way or the other, the margins matter.

What an awful awful call on that check swing.

At any rate, I hope Odor hits the most piddly of piddly lousy singles to win the game.

Damn he almost kept his foot on. May have according to the new catch rule.

E4 in the 7th after a lead single. Odor had plenty of time to field that like a first baseman. I always got my right foot on the bag when covering first on a bunt when coming over from 2B. Routine play if Odor has his right foot on the bag.

I agree with that.

I don't think I have ever seen the Rangers start the season this badly at the plate. Bannister has to feel like he is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic every night.
