Shouldn't Gallo or Drew Robinson (or both ) be on the AAA roster? The roster projections I saw had them slated for AAA, with Robinson possibly being in the MLB until Alberto is available from injury. But both needed to play every day so like both will be in AAA.

I'm assuming the final roster decisions haven't been made yet for Rangers, so AAA is still in limbo somewhat.

Gallo homered again today.

Get what you can now?

The failing Texas Rangers are completely inaccurate in their grade of Joey Gallo. The idea that he has hope to be a big league player is fake news. Sad.

We've had Rogers, Helling and 3 days of shelling....

Is this year Hamels, Yu and 3 days of poo?

Reeeeally need Martin Perez to have a good year. He's one of the x-factors imo.

This is one of the worst AAA rosters we've had in awhile
Well, the good news is, the AAA roster hasn't been filled out yet. The bad news is... I'm not sure it improves that much from what was listed. I'm looking strictly at pitching...

Listed:
SP
a.) Bibens-Dirkx (31): ('16, AAA) 13 GS, 4.34 ERA, 1.294 WHIP

RP
RJ Alvarez (25): 28.0 IP in MLB
Gamboa (32): 13.1 IP in MLB <- Could become a SP
Jaye Chapman (29): 12.0 IP in MLB
Preston Claiborne (29): Missed 2015, and pitched AA in 2016 for NYY.
Dragmire (24): AA last year.
Jimmy Reyes (28): 0.0 IP in MLB
Jose Valdespina (25): AAA last year
Tyler Wagner (26): 23.2 IP in MLB
Wesley Wright (32): 307.0 IP in MLB - 4.16 ERA, 1.40 WHIP

Remaining:
Assume the Rangers keep: Darvish, Hamels, Perez and AJGriffin. 5th?

That leaves many of the normal suspects:
b.) Chi Chi Gonzalez (25-RHP)
c.) Nick Martinez (26-RHP)

Final 2?
Cashner (29) <- Isn't he still questionable for the season?
Michael Kickham (25)?
Dillon Gee (30): 3.20 ERA in 19.2 IP <- just saw he opted out.
Mike Hauschild (27): 2.70 ERA in 20.0 IP
Tyson Ross (29) <- Isn't he out until mid-season?

I wonder how much of the fact the Rangers will vacate Round Rock will play into the players they put there. A good season might bouy attendance for 2018?

Also, there are MANY retreads circulating that could be added... just as someone like Dillon Gee might end up elsewhere.

With fielders... adding Gallo and Robinson would help the attractiveness of RR, but with Beltre, who knows if he ends up on the DL, opening up the start of the season to someone like Gallo or Robinson on the roster.

I guess some answers:

http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/texas-rangers/rangers/2017/03/29/rangers-option-nick-martinez-can-prepare-major-league-start

Interesting...

Cashner will be the 5th, once he is ready.

Quote:

The Rangers are hopeful Andrew Cashner would be ready to take over the No. 5 spot in the rotation on the 15th, but are also prepared in case he is not ready until the April 20 or 25.

Martinez is the bubble guy.

Forgot Hauschild is a Rule V guy, so he'll be long-relief in the BP.

FWIW, on High Heat, Russo and Gammons both predicted Rangers, Astros, M's in that order for the West. Liked the Rangers leadership and one/two punch of Hamels and Darvish. They really like Houston's offense, but not the rotation, said M's have a bunch of fourth outfielders, will fade.

Day to day basically. Might go on the 10 day DL (back dated), but he is hoping to avoid it.

I am betting that we carry an extra infielder (Robinson) for the first few games just in case Beltre isn't ready (or to pinch run and be a defensive replacement), and then send him down and bring back an extra pitcher once Beltre is fully recovered.

I guess if he keeps hitting, Gallo might be an option as well, but I'd rather see him in RR playing everyday.

Hope Beltre gets right quickly. 1 for 27 this spring between ST and WBC is a little scary.

Article I saw said we likely would be carrying an additional fielder just in case. Hopefully he gets better and gets going. History says he will.

I know...right? I went in last year thinking the same thing....and got proved wrong with the 1-run record. But aren't the Rangers going to regress towards the mean? [/AstrosFan]

What are your thoughts on Lucroy's contract? Is Molina the ceiling or the floor?

Molina's (34) contract is rumored to be greater than the Posey contract... making Molina the highest paid Catcher. Rumors of between $18-21M per. That seems to be a ton of money for a catcher when he is 37-38.

Molina will be 35 in July. Lucroy is 30 and will be 31 in June.

Molina has been at an average of $14.5M per season during the age Lucroy will be for the next 3-4 years.

I'd like to see the Rangers lock up Lucroy. A 4th year to the contract?

With the money committed elsewhere in the roster, see zero chance Rangers can afford to go $18/5 for Lucroy, which is what he's going to get, if not more.

Figured it was along those lines. Banny played kind of coy during the interview during the game about it. Hoping he is quick to recover, but this is not out of the norm for Beltre since he has been here

I'm betting beltre will play, but it's almost certain we'll carry an extra infielder and have a 4 man bench now. It was looking like were originally planning on having an extra guy in the pen

http://www.lonestarball.com/2017/3/31/15143402/keone-kela-being-optioned-to-aaa-round-rock

The Texas Rangers are optioning righthanded reliever Keone Kela to AAA Round Rock, with Jon Daniels saying the move is due to "clubhouse culture" issues, rather than performance related issues, per the beat guys on Twitter.
What specific "clubhouse culture" issues? No one is saying publicly, though the beats all seem to indicate that this is a disciplinary move.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that this is a shock, but it is definitely surprising, as Kela was a revelation in 2015, being a big part of the bullpen as a flame-throwing rookie. Kela missed much of 2016 due to elbow surgery, and wasn't quite the same once he was activated, but he has dominating, swing-and-miss stuff. With Jake Diekman on the d.l., the only other reliever you can really say that about on the Rangers' major league roster is Matt Bush.
Kela is one of those guys who is said to have an "edge" to him. Hopefully, he responds to this move, and gets back in the majors and contributing to the Texas Rangers.

I think someone will give him 5 and $18ish. I can't say I've seen enough to pull the trigger on offering that. I'd keep my powder dry, see how this season progresses, and then make a decision.

He's been underpaid so much so far that he's not going to take an early discount anyway. This is THE deal for him.

One thing the Rangers have going for them is a very cohesive clubhouse.

They will NOT tolerate a problem child.

Kelo's on a REAL short leash now. Any more problems and he'll be gone.
