Good job to keep it at two I guess, after a bloop off the fist scores 2.

I mean his bullpen management has been abysmal and that defensive alignment error was about as elementary as you can get amongst other things....

Wouldn't hurt my feelings if he went bye bye.

Yeah, that was the defensive alignment for if you didn't walk pedroia. So ****ing stupid.

If I had a dollar for every time we walk the 9th place hitter

Heard a stat yesterday that league wide OBP is like .320. When the Rangers pitch to a 9th place hitter it's .328.

In other words, bat 9th against them and you're better than average.

Still nothing has changed.

Ongoing questions...
SP
Do we have 3 legit playoff starters?
Darvish: 17GS, 3.11 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 107.0 IP, 115 SO - Definitely. #5 in AL ERA
Hamels: 7GS, 4.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 43.2 IP, 22 SO
Cashner: 13 GS, 3.87 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 74.1 IP, 36 SO
Perez: 16 GS, 4.60 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, 88.0 IP, 64 SO <- 3.41 ERA through 4.0 IP. His ERA is actually #23 in AL.

I have no confidence ABD, Nick Martinez and AJG will sustain, and Ross is still coming together.

The playoff rotation of
Wild Card: Darvish: 6.1 IP, would leave 2.2 IP for RP
Rest Day
Game 1: Hamels: 6.1 IP. I think he has the history to prove he can return. 2.2 IP for RP
Game 2: Perez: 4.0 IP. This is where you now have to scramble with RP. Maybe Cashner in long relief?
Rest Day
Game 3: Darvish: 6.1 IP.
Game 4: Could you go Hamels?

RP
Claudio: 2.76, 1.16 <- Only LHP in BP.
Bush: 3.77, 1.48, 31.0 IP, 33 K
Kela: 2.64, 0.88, 30.2 IP, 42 K
LeClerc: 3.24, 1.12, 25.0, 39 K

WIll Grilli help? He might. Tyson Ross in RP? If we could pick up one mid-tier LH RP and one true Closer, I think we're good in the post season. Is Diekman considered?

Hitting...
We're 3rd in Runs Scored. 14th in BA. 11th in OBP. We score lots. Imagine if we ever learned to manufacture runs.

Napoli is hitting .226 against LHP. Maybe we platoon he and Gallo.
Beltre-Andrus-Odor-Lucroy/Chirinos are fine
Mazara-Gomez-Choo are fine
Maybe pick up another Bat?

Managing
SMH... I just don't know.

I think we have some pieces we can move. I think if the Rangers decide to go with Nicholas and trade Lucroy... we'd get "something." Not sure Napoli has any value. Cashner and Ross are both FAs, so I don't think there is anything there, unless we trade them to a NL team that needs SP to contend.

As frustrating as this team is... and it is frustrating... baseball is a game of momentum and streaks.

We're not out of it yet!

We aren't out of it, but with this bullpen there are no good solutions, or solutions that I could say to myself that I trust day in and day out. If we did somehow win a WC game, the BP issues would flare up in a playoff series for sure. And I just do not think it is worth it at all to trade prospects for bullpen help. The rangers need to build for the future

Minor league thoughts. These are our 4 Best SP prospects, IMO.

All these guys are at AA Frisco:
Sadzeck has been moved to RP. #10 ranked prospect His last 4 appearances:
1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO
1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO
0.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 SO
0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO.

YoMen (22-LHP-6'5") continues to have success. He is our #2 ranked prospect
15 GS, 3.58 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 93.0 IP, 78 SO

Collin Wiles (23-RHP-6'4") is doing well:
15 GS (16G), 3.83 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 84.2 IP, 57 SO

Ariel Jurado (21-RHP-6'1") gives hope. He is our #3 ranked prospect
16 GS, 4.08 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 90.1 IP, 63 SO

Other notables I will probably spend time following:
Pedro Payano (22-RHP) #27 prospect Frisco (AA): 6GS @ AA, 2.70 ERA. Starting to make some noise

Brett Martin(22-LHP) #5 prospect Down East (A+): 6GS, 3.38 ERA, 29.1 IP, 36 K
Palumbo (22-LHP) #11 prospect DE (A+): 3 GS, 0.66 ERA, 13.2 IP, 22K <- Look at those Ks

Matuella (23-RHP) #20 prospect Hickory (A). Still hopeful. 10 GS, this season. 5.90 ERA.

Cole Ragans (19-LHP) #8 Prospect Spokane (ShA): 3GS, 2.77 ERA, 13.0 IP, 17 K. Normally Spokane is for College players drafted in June of that year. So, he is young for the league and worth following.

Our minors aren't completely empty. We have some guys coming along.

I'm curious to see how the recent draft and Int'l signings go. Now that Spokane has started up... I normally use that league to gauge some of the newly drafted players. Some of the pitchers will start to get limited use, but you'll at least start to see how the Rangers feel about them.

Know if Hans Crouse has made an appearance yet? Really excited to watch this kid come up through the farm system, especially after reading his background story.

Crouse hasn't played yet.

(He's with the Arizona rookie team, they're about a week into their season.)

I'll check. Looks like they were able to get him signed.

He got $1.45M, well over the slot value of $926,500. YEAH!

Looks like the Rangers signed #26 pick (Bubba Thompson) for less ($350K less than $2.45 slot)) and Christopher Seise (#29 pick) for less ($239K less than $2M slot).

So, the Rangers likely had an expectation they could get them for less than slot.

Rangers have signed 10 of their Top 11 players. Ryan Dease (4th Rd, 134 overall pick) is the only hold out.

The Rangers likely had a strategy of going College players in the 5th-10th Rd to save some slot money. I'm waiting to see if Blaine Knight (Arkie Commit) and Jordan Anderson (Miss St Commit) sign.

According to this DMN article, the Top 3, including Crouse, will be in Az Rookie League.
Quote:

The three players are expected to leave for Arizona shortly to begin play in the Arizona Rookie League. And they already seem to understand what's in store for them since daytime highs in Surprise, Ariz., next week are expected to range between 111 and 119 degrees.

From the Rangers AZL Stats:

He has made an appearance on June 30th for: 1.0 IP, 1H, 1 Hit Batter, 2 SO

Any word on if the Astros get to keep him when they take over Round Rock

Ryan Dease signed two weeks ago for $340,000.

Like Crause, my apologies, Dease has also already pitched for the Arizona rookie league.

MLB wasn't updated, apparently. That's good news. Thanks for the update. Goes to show that I'm not as thorough as I'd like to be, or I would have seen his numbers.

Dease's stats are two lines below Hans Crause's stats on that link you posted. They both pitched June 30, too.

That should have tipped you off.

It means stick to being a novelist, not a critic.

Also, you mixed what Seise signed for with what his slot value was.
