Does Stassi have speed?

And I get Bregs still isn't 100%. I'm just curious about Stassi

Hey...

What does it mean when we have more runs than the other team when the game is over?

yeah, but what have we really done at first base this year? Reed and white blah.. marwin has been ok. I guess valbuena played there a bunch and did well after his rough start... I just think he would have been a difference maker.

Made it to my last game of the season. Finished 8-5. I'll take it. So long Tal's hill. Won't miss you.

Would have been nice to have Chris Carters 38 homers at first base this year

Throw Chris Carter into the group of guys with JD Martinez and Carlos Gomez. They may find success elsewhere, but here they got every opportunity to prove themselves and they sucked.

I'm glad he's gone. I can just remember those dumbfounded, don't give a shlt looks on his face every time he struck out and my blood boils.

No thanks.

And he'll never be a difference maker. He'll be at best an Adam Dunn type who every once in awhile launches one but other than that is useless, Not worth it. Chris Carter makes George Springer look like the most dependable, even keeled hitter in the MLs. He fits with the old boom or bust style that I think (with guys like Brgeman, Kemp, Gurriel) we're trying to get away from. I was actually pretty pleased this year at how little we depended on the home run. It was actually quite refreshing.

It'll be just like slow pitch softball... every field is the same boring, chainlink fenced, four field cloverleaf setup with too many first bases so nobody gets injured or their feelings hurt.

For grins, let's just say that we beat Seattle today, Baltimore loses the next two to Toronto, Detroit loses the next two to Cleveland, and Seattle wins their opener against Oakland. The last weekend of the season would suddenly have a lot more meaning.

BAL 85-74 3 @ NYY
DET 84-75 3 @ ATL
HOU 84-75 3 @ LAA
SEA 84-75 3 vs OAK

Now this probably won't happen, but it would definitely add some drama to the end of the season, which is what the second wild card was supposed to do.

When it's all said and done, I think we'll look back at the two collapses against the Angels as the games down the stretch that cost us a shot.
AgDotCom

And for more grins, if Detroit beats us out by one game, I'll look at July 30 when we scored 2 runs in the 9th to take the lead 2-1. Then Harris comes in, gets the first two outs, then this happened:

Time to make it happy. I want crane to throw around money likes he's James harden in the strip clubhouse this offseason. We gotta get another OF, some starting pitching, & one more high end bat to go with altuve correa springer bregs gattis & gurriel.
You solve OF and the bat with Cespedes (if he opts out).

Potential 25-man roster if you sign him and teach Gurriel 1B (you'd have to be happy with this lineup to start the year). Still need to Figure out CF - I love Marisnick's DEFENSE, his bat is just dreadful.

C - Gattis
1B - Gurriel
2B - Altuve
SS - Correa
3B - Bregman
RF - Springer
CF - ???
LF - Cespedes
DH - re-sign Valbuena since he can back up 1B?

BN - Gonzalez
BN - Kemp
BN - Hernandez
BN - Back-up C (Stassi? FA?)

There isn't a front line starter available in FA. There isn't a $100M guy out there since Strasburg re-signed with the Nats. Pick up another lefty for the bullpen, for sure - but you have to count on them being a great unit again. Need another SP that will go deep in games so they don't wear out.

You're probably looking at this for next year, barring a blockbuster trade. This is really where Luhnow needs to prove his worth and find a way to get a solid #2 (to be our #3) via trade. There just isn't anyone I see that will give up a #1.

SP - McCullers
SP - Keuchel
SP - ???
SP - Musgrove
SP - Feliz/Devo/re-sign McHugh

RP - Sipp
RP - one leftover who can't start from above (Devo?)
RP - lefty specialist
RP - Neshek
RP - Harris
RP - Gregerson
RP - Giles
Couple thoughts on your post.

1. Gurriel really can't play defense, Valbuena did pretty well at first, I think they should re-sign Valbuena for Rasmus' money and keep him around at 1b. Hate to give him 4-5 years and would love to see him prove this year wasn't a fluke. Would be fine with whatever rasmus got.

2. Cespedes would really fill a gap in our offense and defense. Wonder what it would take to sign him, he isn't going to be cheap.

3. Should platoon Gattis and Castro, Stassi just isn't good enough and Castro is such a great defensive catcher

4. Somehow they have to find someone who can give 150-180 innings with an era below 4.5 I just don't know that McHugh is that guy. I would definitely give McHugh a single year contract at 13-15mm, but I sure don't want to give him 4-5 years.

5. Sipp has to go, eat his money.

6. I haven't given up on AJ Reed yet. He just watches too many pitches and needs to get aggressive. Swing is too good to be as bad as he was. I will cringe if he goes to another team as he will 100% become JD Martinez if he moves on.

7. Springer drives me nuts. 200k's from the leadoff spot. Love the guy, but he drives me nuts.

Last couple things, that starting pitching sucks. Hinch needs to learn that you don't have to change the lineup every single night, that players can rest by playing DH instead of completely sitting on the bench, and that if you win the first two of the series you don't have to concede the third game and rest all of your players.

Over 162 we can sit here and pick out a bunch of games that costs us a WC spot. I won't go back and pick out particular games. That's cumbersome and pointless.

I think it came down to not being healthy for the final 1/4 of the season. We went form being one of the healthiest teams for the first 3/4 of the season then all of a sudden we came crashing back down to earth with not only injuries, but injuries to key players and pitchers down the stretch.

If we have Luis, Bregman, Dallas, and LMJ only out for half the time they really were I think we win a WC spot. Hell...LMJ missed a big chunk early and late.

Ramus got something liek 15 M last year. I don't think we want to pay V that.

5. Sipp has to go, eat his money. No way this happens. He gets at leats next year to see if he can straighten it out. if not then I agree we should eat it but for now he gets one more year.

Springer drives me nuts too, but he had a nice year. First off he played the whole time which is a first. He also batted .260 which about on par for what we expected. He did hit 30+ HRs and scored 100+ runs. He is what he is...A streaky, power hitting high K bat.

I thought Hinch did a damn good job managing the second half of the season. He used his his BP pretty well considering the amoutn of usage we had due to the rotation. He also did well in not moving Devo and sticking with Bregman in that 2 hole. First half had it's share of typical Hinch brain farts, but the second half was pretty damn good considering what he working with.

The inability to be competitive with Texas costs us the shot. We've got to get that ****ty ****ing team figured out for next year.

No shlt!!!

If we just play .500 against them we're right in it for the division and a lock for the WC.

I agree with this... Castros only threw out 23% of base runners.... Gattis threw out 50%.

Give Gattis a spring training at catcher and he will only get better at the position.
