Astros 2016 somewhat probable, kinda conceivable march to the World Series

I'd keep the Jake of the last week over the Gomez of the last year.

First pitch at 2:40 today.

I like watching the games, but I also like getting to listen to them while I'm at work.

And not having to stay up late to watch these stupid later time zone games.

How do you listen without paying? iHeart radio isn't allowed to stream the games...only other way is through the mlb website to my knowledge?

My dad bought an MLB.tv subscription this year. He gave me his password.

But last year I used tunein.com

You can sign up for a free trial, cancel the auto renewal instantly, and still get to listen to mlb games for the length of the free trial.

For free?

But for me I just pay the $19.99 for a year of audio on mlb.com. It's worth it for day games in the office or anytime I'm outside grilling or doing yard work.

Posted previous. Tunein premium has a week trial. They broadcast all the games. After that it's $7.99/month.

Gomez is slated to start tomorrow, so he'll get his chance to keep his spot in the lineup. And let's be honest, if we want to continue to turn this season around, we're more likely to do so with Gomez figuring it out than Jake batting .220, which is close to his ceiling. As much as we hate him for his slow start and want him gone, we should all be huge Gomez fans hoping he gets it going.
The defensive woes have got to go away. And he needs to quit trying to do too much at the plate... Start getting hits before you try and hit every pitch out of the park.
That is not just a Gomez thing. Aside from Altuve, nobody knows how to shorten their swing with 2 strikes and just poke it somewhere. It's pitiful how poorly coached they are at the plate..

My dad paid for a lifetime subscription to Sirius years ago (like $350), so he gave me his login info for the Sirius app, which has all of the MLB games.

We aren't poorly coached. That's the philosophy of the hitting coach and likely comes from the front office. I'm sure they have data to support it, too.

In the new age of baseball with stats and advanced analytics driving so many decisions, many of the old school practices, like shortening up with two strikes to make contact, are going to go away, particularly for certain types of hitters.

The idea is to generate more solid contact with two strikes by focusing on driving the ball, rather than take defensive swings that lead to soft contact or a strikeout anyway.

It can be a frustrating approach for fans accustomed to seeing guys battle at the plate, but it is what it is.

Gomez and Marisnick in the same lineup

Does anyone feel the only reason Hinch plays Gomez in center instead of Marisnick is because Gonez wouldn't be able to handle the position change.

Imo Marisnick is without question a better option in Center

I am speaking only defensively

McCullers loves to step into the batter's box.

Hope he gets a hit today.

Arizona has been good for us offensively. Maybe we will see Gomez go 2-4 with a HR and 3 RBIs.

It's a product of building a strong farm and not having $ to spend, but there is a pretty salty ex-Astros team in the MLB.

C - Carlos Perez
1B - Cris Carter
2B - Ben Zobrist
SS - Jon Villar
3B - Jed Lowrie
LF - JD Martinez
CF - Dexter Fowler
RF - Hunter Pence
DH - Domingo Santana

SP - Vincent Velasquez
SP - Nick Tropeano
SP - Mike Foltynewicz
SP - JA Happ
SP - Dan Straily

BP - Mark Melancon
BP - Fernando Rodriguez
BP - Fernando Abad
BP - Xavier Cedeno
BP - Brett Oberholtzer
Frok
How long do you want to ignore this user?
A lot on that list are not products of the Astros farm system.

I wouldn't call that salty. I think it's far from it

VV may be the only player on that list that would fit in on this team right now. Oh and Dexter Fowler

I agree that team is pretty bad, but it's better than what most teams would be able to put out there of an all ex players team.

Fowler, Pence, and Martinez are all pretty great in the OF. Only Springer would start over any of those guys from an offensive standpoint.

I know Jonathan Villar was last year's punching bag, but the dude is still young and off to a great albeit BABIP fueled start this year.

Ben Zobrist isn't better than Altuve, but he's better than everyone else in the infield this year, including Correa.

I didn't do this as an indictment on the Astros front office. It was just a fun exercise to show how transient the roster has been from 2010 on.
Ag_07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ehh...I think Martinez and Rasmus are probably pretty close with maybe an upper hand to JD but only slightly.

Villar I still see as nothing more than a Marwin type bench player on a good team or maybe an everyday starter for a sub-par team. I don't know why but I just don't like what I see.

Agree on Zobrist. He's a player but not as good as Altuve.

It'd be interesting to do this for every MLB team and see who has the best roster.

***And just as aside did you guys happen to notice the submarine act Cater is pulling off in MIL? Over his last 15 games (60 ABs) he's slashing .183/.203/.383 with only 3 HRs and 26 Ks.
irish pete ag06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
JD has been a waaaaay better hitter than Rasmus. Rasmus defense is better though.
Ag_07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah for sure. I was just saying I'm not so sure swapping out Rasmus for JD makes us a better team overall.

Whereas Dexter for Jake/Gomez is hands down better.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. Before this season, Gomez has always measured slightly better than Marisnick defensively in CF. At least in runs saved IIRC. Since we're hoping to get that Gomez, I think it makes sense to play him there.

Marisnick does have a lot more experience playing LF than Gomez though.

And right on cue George rips a leadoff double
CorpsAg11
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Stats are fine for batting but I am always skeptical of fielding metrics. There is no planet on which Gomez is a better fielder than Jake.

Jake gets better jumps, is faster, and doesn't lazily catch the ball down around his waist.
