Entering the 6th inning Yu Darvish had not given up a hit since the 1st inning.

Entering the 6th inning Yu Darvish had struck out the last two Angels batters faced.

Once it got to Trout, Texas wasn't going to pitch to him... So a single with nobody on and 2 outs is reason to pull your ace at 84 pitches?

It's stupid. It's even more stupid when you realize he did the same thing in Game 163 last year and it bit him in the ass then too.

Averages typically skyrocket against pitchers once you get to the 3rd, 4th, etc... times the lineup turns over...

...so you put in a guy with a 1.13 ERA who didn't pitch the day before?

Sometimes logic can point you in multiple directions, but you don't see the logic there?

Darvish second time through lineup: 0.160 BAA
Darvish third time through lineup: 0.196 BAA


So you're pulling Yu Darvish because his BAA is 0.196 at this point in the game?

I don't know if I'd do it, like I said, logic can take you multiple ways. Some days I might, some days I might not. Come playoff, there may not be a tomorrow...maybe I'd do it.

He's going from .196 BA/.648 OPS in Darvish to .179 BA/.498 OPS in Cotts.

Against lefties: .212 BA/.659 OPS for Darvhish, .200 BA/.562 OPS for Cotts.

Except Darvish's sample size is 200+ innings.

Cotts is 50.

And now you're choosing Robbie Ross over Yu Darvish as well.

It's over-managing. He did it in Game 163 last year and it didn't make sense. It bit him in the ass then. He does it in Game 162 again this year and it didn't make sense. It bit him in the ass again.

Its amazing how guys who have workloads one fourth of another's typically have the better statistics, isn't it?

Derek Holland did have a 170+ inning sample size, though.

I'm not always a big fan of brining in starters as relievers. Of course, Cotts hasn't been pumping out a 4.67 ERA this season, either.
