I didn't like 6 years, 2 years ago.

I certainly don't like 7 years, 2 years after I said 6 years is insane.

Gotta hope $20M in 4 years doesn't seem like much.

You got Kinsler's contract wrong:

2014 (32) $16,000,000
2015 (33) $16,000,000
2016 (34) $14,000,000
2017 (35) $11,000,000
2018 (36) *$12,000,000

*$12M Team Option, $5M Buyout

If they don't exercise the team option, they are commited to him at an avg of $15.5 million per year through age 35 (2017 - 16, 16, 14, 16). I rounded, not unlike Fielder not quite being $20. If they wanted to throw $12 mill at him for age 36, then they' would have cross that bridge then. But until then, they'd have been committed to basically 16 for 4 seasons as I stated, and that's how he'd have been rolled up in Mr Simpson/Davis' Ranger financial statement footnotes.

What am I missing? So, you round $14M to $16M and $11M to $16M?

The $5M option in 2018 is when he is 36. You can't abitraraly assign 2018\36 money to a year.

You have no idea if they pick that option up or not.

You don't understand math or contracts.

He assumes the Rangers would pick up the option. He is adding $5M to total payout without the extra year.

If the Rangers don't pick the option, their average yearly salary is lower. But the total outlay is higher.

They owe him a minimum of $62 million for 4 years, capiche? That is what they were committed to. Average cost = $15.5 per year. I'm not rounding 11 to 16. i rounded 15.5 to 16. Now if they choose to give him $12 at age 36, the avg/year goes down. But again, that isn't what they were committed to. They were committed to $62 million for 4 years of service.

And for a guy that has trouble olaying more than 130 games a year in his 20's, $12 at age 36 isn't looking so great to me at this point.

Oh I get all that... but it could easily be said to take the Max... and that would be $13.8/yr.

At this point it is an Option year... nobody knows how much of that year they will pay.
